It’s still really early in his development and only 20. The lack of progression offensively in year two is concerning, but there’s still time.

I got no problem trading Dyson, but I sure as hell wouldn’t do it for Caruso, and I like Caruso.

People need to realize that our core lineup is set, and we will see where it takes us this year.
We have a starting 5, a backup 5, Trey and Hawkins who are good enough to start on most teams, and then 3 more legit role players.

We can’t add talent to this team without giving some away. If you give some away, then you better be getting back something that makes us better.
Exchanging role players doesn’t make us better.
Upgrading JV or BI is really the only moves we can make to really make us significantly better. I’d say Herb as well but I have a hard time believing there’s a guy out there ok with being the 5th option that makes what he makes and does what he does, meaning I’m not trading Herb for Jerami Grant.

Yes there is but my question is what are we waiting for him to develop into? A lesser version of Herb Jones or Alex Caruso. As a former lottery pick is it really worth investing that much time and money on a player like that? Or do you flip him for someone who can help you win now?

"I see you, JV, I see you!"

"Can you please relax, Joel?!"

IMO, the only trade worth doing is using fringe players to balance the roster. Maybe you trade Lidell and Marshall for another big, but I doubt they want to break up this team with a big move like getting rid of BI or CJ when they are finally playing well.

You don’t trade off a guy that has a role on the team for a 4th big that would never even dress

We should only make a trade if we get a clear upgrade in our top 8 players

I can see trading Dyson and maybe Naji, but no one else.

Not for anything less than a clear upgrade in the top 8 players, otherwise you’re trading them for nothing.

I mean we're sitting here saying no way we can trade Dyson for a backup; hate to burst peoples bubbles but Dyson is also a backup.

Dyson is on a rookie-scale contract and a good value for us in the future. Trading him for Caruso would shorten our window. There's zero chance that Griff would do such a deal. We'll only significantly shorten our timeline for an impact player that gives us a chance to win a title this season.

You really think that Caruso over Dyson is the missing piece that puts us over the top to winning a title this year?

No but he makes us more competitive this year and I believe hes under contract next year as well. You really believe holding on to Dyson is worth more than being more competitive for this year and next?

We want to talk about playoffs, we know JV may get exposed a bit on defense. What do you think teams are going to do with Dyson in the playoffs if hes in the rotation on offense? They’re going to completely ignore him and double everytime off of him.

Probably not, but if we go on a nice little run and have a 4 seed and only a couple of games away from a 1/2 seed by the deadline, then I think it's a better question at that time.

If Dyson's peak is 2023-2024 Caruso, I'd be happy with that.

You make fringe trades now based on who you could see in the playoffs. If you can't match up with the bigs in Minnesota and Denver, you absolutely make a trade for a guy that can get you 15 minutes in those matchups.

you could probably go find old threads where people considered Jaxon Hayes and NAW untouchable assets

Lol you guys are funny- Caruso is basically a much, much better offensive version of Dyson. Like I said the expectations of what Dyson will “eventually” become by some posters is sky high.

Lol. We aren't going to pay tax this year and start our repeater clock running just to be more competitive next season. Trades to make us more competitive next season are things we can do in the off-season.

Again, the only reason to make a trade now that includes paying tax is something that significantly gives us the opportunity to win a title this year.

Huh how is getting Caruso now mean we automatically pay the tax? What? Caruso only makes 9 mil.

Why?

I'd argue there's not a 50% chance that Dyson ends up better than Caruso is right now.

I tend to agree if that trade is now or that trade is made when we're clearly nowhere near a contender(I'd consider us sorta there now)

But if a 1 seed is only 3 or so games away by the deadline, this deal does make sense.

I don't think anyone is denying that Caruso is a better player than Dyson right now.
BUt why give up assets for a guy who is going to play backup minutes in an already crowded bench, and really doesn't do much to make us win more games than if we didn't trade for him?

Caruso is a legit playoff rotation guy.

Dyson is a guy we likely do not want in our playoff rotation

Let's see how it plays out up to the deadline. If we're still a 5 seed and a top 3 seed seems distant, I agree.

If we get up to a 3 or 4 seed and/or that 1 seed is just 3 games or so away, there would be a good reason to make that trade IMO
