I don’t know if we are in a position to say anyone on this roster is 100% untouchable, but I don’t think swapping Herb for Murray solves our issues.

Honestly I think his best fit would be spurs. They desperately need a ball dominant guard to get pressure off Wemby.

I hate to say it, but I think he’d fit really well on the Lakers too. Some team allowing them to turn Russell and a 2030 1st into Murray just feels somehow stupidly inevitable

But like i said earlier, if you’re trading BI for him then that starts making a little more sense, but there’s no possible way we can add him to what we already have.
Correct

And I see zero reason or logic to Utah trading Lauri for a package with BI as the centerpiece.

The Pelicans are open to moving Herb Jones, per @HPbasketball “The Pelicans are thought to be open to moving Herbert Jones. They're high on Jones, but it'll be difficult for the team to pay their stars, Jones and Trey Murphy III.”

I would not be trading Herb.

I would be looking at Dyson, BI, JV, Naji, and Jose. That doesn’t mean they are bad players. They are all very good/great players for their contracts. Just the long term contract situation and playing time.

I would be open to trading multiple first and BI for Lauri if Utah would entertain it.

Are you sure this is recent? I don’t see this anywhere. Do you have a link?

Nevermind found it. If this is true- its dumb. Herb is on a cheap deal and has been pretty damn good this year.

Again if true- they’ll overpay BI but ship out Herb even though hes outplaying his contract smh.

No one wants BI as their centerpiece. Hes a nice #3 at best. I know you mean centerpiece of the team but no one is giving big assets for him because he ain’t “him”.

Herb, Naji, JV, and BI or Zion are the pieces we have to trade. Doubt the trigger is pulled at deadline but wouldn’t shock me if something happens this summer

I doubt anything that would really move the needle.

Trading herb so we could overpay BI might be my breaking point as a pels fan

MM has been pushing JV/Herb for Jarrett Allen. I think that’s how you have to look at it, not how many picks is Herb worth?

So the question is what’s a better lineup?

BI/CJ/Trey/Zion/Allen

Or

BI/CJ/Herb/Zion/JV

I’d rather trade BI and let hawk fill that role than trade herb to overpay BI. but salaries aside, it would mean we see more of trey which im not opposed to

What are our issues?

Ball handling and crunch time failure.

Murray brings both to the team. He hits clutch shots, he handles the ball, and he’s still good enough to defend the best guard on the opposing team. He’s not Herb or Dyson level of a defender, but he’s still good.

Now would he solve everything? Absolutely not, but he does help two issues while having a low acquisition cost where we would still have a treasure trove to trade for other moves.

He is also the kind of move where I would be comfortable saying “Ok lets swap BI for KAT”, and then all of a sudden we have 4 40% high volume 3 point shooters surrounding Zion once you insert Trey into the starting lineup.

Obviously 1, but that’s just one lineup. The question should be: is Dyson is ready to step up? Because I don’t think so and we’ll need him if we move Herb.

Here is the full text of what Matt Moore said.

quote:

Here's a look at all 30 teams, and what league sources or known reporting has suggested as far as teams' intentions at the trade deadline…

New Orleans Pelicans

Jarrett Allen is the name most commonly associated with the Pelicans. They're looking to reset their center position a little more in the age timeline of their stars Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson. Jonas Valanciunas on an expiring contract could wind up being moved which would be smart given how much interest there is in centers across the league, and his $15 million expiring deal will be an asset.

The Pelicans are thought to be open to moving Herbert Jones. They're high on Jones, but it'll be difficult for the team to pay their stars, Jones and Trey Murphy III.

Hold on a second...if you guys are gonna get rid of the Herbster...well, I kinda like the guy so how about finding a way to send him to a serious contender...let's say the Mavs. I'm pretty sure they're about to get serious about winning it all.

Do they have anybody they could give the Pels that would satisfy the Pels...and this MM character?

I wonder if this is the Cavs wanting Herb more than Pels wanting to trade Herb. I can easily see Pels telling Cavs we’ll give JV, Dyson and picks for Allen. Cavs probably are asking for Herb instead of Dyson. Knowing how much this coaching staff, players and organization value Herb- would find it odd if they traded him.
