He took ten a year because he wanted out. Duh. If we tried to get him back je would've asked for way more to strong arm us

Wrong. He wanted to come back but the Pels (Willie) did not want him back. He campaigned in the media for an extension during the season.

You think someone’s taking a pay cut to play for the Wizards lol?

Are we sure he took a payout?

He is only making 10M a year. But he got a 3 year deal, so that's 30M guaranteed. Maybe he could have got 12-15M for a one year deal somewhere else. But was anyone else offering more total money?

That’s wrong. Jonas and his family loved New Orleans and the Pelicans but our dipshit coach refused to use him and tried trading him all year last year. After the deadline when they didn’t deal him Willie just started him but then he’d only play 15 minutes with Larry playing 30 minutes. Not many guys HAPPILY do the dirty work in the NBA anymore and don’t miss games. All you had to do was throw Jonas a bone every now and then so he would have given you 17&10 easily a night. If we had a coach that actually used him he would have gladly come back for $10 million a year. Now we are literally going to start Daniel Theis at center this season and expect a deep playoff run. That’s laughable.

Yeah but there is a big picture here. I'd rather go through a year of growing pains at center if it means we set ourselves up for the future.

We have spent years on old centers and temporary centers. I'm cool with ripping off that bandaid to actually force a move.

Also one thing people may not be aware of:

1. Y'all want to pay Val 10+ mil
2. ALL (4) of our current centers = 10mil
3. We clearly don't have the money
4. Signing Val and being in the tax without trading an extended BI loses us leverage.

We would have less money, less leverage, and a higher tax.

It forced us a “move” by drafting Missi in the first round this year and at this point, I have no idea if Missi pans out. Sometimes what you had before is better than the future.

Good move, thought Pels would have signed him last year, but Griff has a type now. He’s a paint filler for sure, like that he throws his weight around. Maybe Coach Green can keep him from fouling as much. Decent post game, but like Val, takes too long. Reminds you of Looney.

Really good move.

Still don’t have a starting caliber center but Jemison, Theis, Karlo and Missi should be good depth at the position

Our starting lineup had a negative rating. The fact that JV cannot play NBA defense was a big part of that. He was a terrible fit with ion on the rest of our roster.

It doesn't matter what stats he put up, if it doesn't contribute to winning basketball.

The Washington Wizards signed Jonas Valanciunas to a three-year, $30 million deal, which is fully guaranteed the first two years and non-guaranteed Year 3 of the contract, league sources told @hoopshype .

Only first two years are guaranteed. Already seeing articles they expect to trade him at the deadline for a first to a desperate team.

So we’ve signed what, 4 centers after letting Jonas walk for $10M?

Jemison looks like this team’s best option at C as it’s constructed. If we had the money to do a trade I would take a chance on Robert Williams III getting healthy and playing good ball. He’s pushed to the back of the ben ch in Portland now. Or Walker Kessler from Utah for Hawk and a 1st which would get us under the tax line and a starting center in one trade.

They will get it too. I can see someone like the Lakers wanting Jonas so they don’t have to make Toni play the 5 as much. They really got a player in Dalton Knecht in the draft. He was the guyI wanted us to draft to put as much shooting g around Zion as possible. Missi just seems like way too much of a project to me. He reminds me of Jaxon Hayes but hopefully Missi has a better work ethic than Hayes.

From the highlights, he reminds me of Gafford.
