TBF a bit, that particular player grew like 2-3 inches and was one of the biggest unknowns in history. Put on like 40 pounds.

Right, which can happen for Dieng, for example. It’s hard to predict. And fwiw I’m not implying that I think it will or that I’m behind picking him. I know little about him.

I realize players like Giannis don’t grow on trees. It’s interesting to look back and see that 14 teams passed on him and to be reminded the draft is such a crapshoot.

I have Dieng 18th on my board. Among guys like Jalen Williams, Mark Williams, Dalen Terry, Jaden Hardy, and Ochai Agbaji.

Dyson has been my actual #1 guy for months now (I was clearly joking about Dieng being #1), but I'm just not going to get butthurt about most guys getting drafted. I'm sorry that offends you so greatly.

Giannis was seen as having a ceiling of what he has become. He was also seen as possibly being another gigantic Euro-bust like a Bargnani or a Nikoloz Tskitishvili.

That last one? 5th overall to the Nuggets in 2002. He looked great in drills and had good measurable but it turns out he couldn’t play. At all.

Playing against a third or fourth tier competition in Greece made it very hard to figure out if he was that good or if he was just playing against shite.

I know there are plenty of other players that I'd eventually get behind, who could definitely help the Pelicans, with some that even could develop into stars instead of just role players...

...but if the Pels select my #1 perfect fits for offense (Mathurin) or defense (Dyson) tonight, I'll probably tear a ligament fist-pumping so hard.

Outlook: Ousmane Dieng is the definition of a “high ceiling – low floor” prospect … The sky is the limit… There is no denying that Dieng could become a special player

Again, not propping up OD, just playing Devil’s advocate as it goes with predicting player development vs what actually happens. Fun stuff.

I don't think Dieng is nearly as athletic as Giannis was.

Also Dieng is my #1 guy now, knowing how much its going to piss some of the casuals off.

You're more worried about your "fanhood" vs "the casuals" than the actual success of the Pels.

Seems pretty casual to me lmao

He's not. Physically, as has been stated, BI is a better comparison. Athletic enough but not a freak

I was joking. The people that come out the woodwork on draft day are really dense.

Giannis wasn’t as atheltic or physically imposing until he gained his strength. Kids like a baby deer plenty of time to grow

Giannis was always crazy athletic.

Dieng definitely isn't close to the same athlete.

he might not have been strong early on but he definitely was still very athletic

To be clear I’m not meaning to compare Dieng to Giannis. At this point that’s laughable.

Again just focusing on how wrong player analysis can be. Giannis is the first that popped to mind in that sense.

So while we all have guys we prefer over others I try not to overreact on draft night. That being said I’ll probably be throwing my peanuts at the tv tonight.

If they want Dieng thats fine but not at 8. You can trade down and get off of Grahams contract and get him later imho. The staff can obviously evaluate talent so gonna have to trust em

What if they trade down and someone picks him?

If you want a guy, pick him.

If you have 2-3 guys all rated similarly, then by all means trade down.

Not everyone has to be a diehard fan on the message boards.
