What have I missed since yesterday during the game? Everyone still waiting on Melo?

For the most part. But a bunch of role playing guards have gotten crazy money. Avery Bradley 4/$32, Jodie Meeks 3/$19, Ben Gordon 2/$9. Lance Stephenson turned down 5/$44. The market looks inflated enough that the full MLE might not be enough to keep Morrow.

That Gordon deal is incredibly stupid on a few levels.

He couldn't buy a job last year at the minimum once Charlotte released him IIRC.

I think he was also one of the ringleaders of the player coup / revolt against John Kuester in Detroit, meaning that he is one of the LAST guys I'd want around a bunch of young guys like Oladipo.

What if the Cavs plan to max out Hayward and Utah would rather S&T. Would Utah have interest in Gordon in that situation? Hayward played more at SG than SF according to 82games.com

Hell, it even makes Gordon's deal look more palatable.

To other teams, yes. But it's still a bad deal for the Pelicans because of the expensive redundancy.

That was kind of the point I was making. I could see this helping us to move him. Then, he'll live up to that tweet from yesterday and everyone will whine for 8 years about him dogging it here.

will these kind of inflated prices drive up the cap in the next CBA?

I doubt this will. Maybe a more unified front from the players will, but I think this will just drive a new amnesty provision.

The new NBA tv deal will do that.

I don't know that it will change the cost share. Cap is set as a percentage of revenue, so increased TV revenue will increase the cap without a change to the CBA.

No. The cap doesn't change based on league expenses, but league revenues. Although these deals may be a response to expectations of an increasing cap. As long as revenues for the league keep rising the cap will go up.

Now, the Clippers sale may very well offer a bargaining point for the players. A huge increase in value like that certainly shows that the revenue stream has tended toward the coffers.

What will drive up the cap will be the players' (esp. the elite guys) lust to turn the NBA into MLB. The top guys want no cap and give zero fricks about small market viability or competitive balance (see: Super Friends movements). The sides meet somewhere in the middle.

Good. Want as many decent players going to the eastern conference as possible

And yeah, a max deal for Gordon Hayward is crazy

Also means Parsons' agent will be looking for a max deal too

Utah Jazz restricted free agent Gordon Hayward is meeting with Cleveland Cavaliers officials in Ohio today, and a lucrative, multi-year offer sheet is expected to be forthcoming, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

...Hayward, 24, could sign an offer sheet with the Cavaliers when the free-agent moratorium is lifted July 10, and league rules would give Utah three days to make a decision on matching the deal. The Jazz and Cavaliers could also negotiate a sign-and-trade agreement.

LINK

So Utah basically has until the 10th to work out a S&T with Cleveland or an alternate deal with Hayward, if they don't then Hayward signs the offer sheet and they will either match or lock up Cleveland's cap space for 3 days. This can be applied to all RFAs like Chandler Parsons, if someone else is going to make a play for him, you'll probably hear about it before the 10th.
