I hope Kobe stays healthy and just shoots 43 times a game.

I hate the Lakers as much as anyone, but I've grown to like Kobe the older I get. Seeing him try for 50 points every night would be pretty awesome

I would have preferred him to Salmons

Salmons is going to come in and be asked to space the floor and play solid defense. Two things he's more than capable of doing.

I don't remember him as a solid defender.

I hate to be the negative Nancy here, but since when has Monty ever asked to small forward to space the floor? Even pure shooters like Luke Babbitt continuously pump fake and drive to the hoop which is not their forte

Williams has never had a SF capable of spacing. If you want to consider Babbitt a SF, I would say any pump fakes were done on his own accord, not at Monty's request.

Oh that guy that just shot 7 3s a game in Washington at a 40% clip doesn't count? His contract had to be dumped for nothing before and he got a fricking raise. So yeah Monty kind of screwed the pooch there.

You're really trying to blame Monty for Ariza? Damn , son. Did Monty insult your wife and mother?

The same guy who has never hit >36% from 3pt range before he got traded.

The same guy who hit ~32% while he was here, that guy?

You are not watching basketball if you couldn't tell that Arizas well defined role this season didn't help him tremendously. And like it or not, Babbitt played for large stretches last season and did the same pump fake and drive. Hell even our summer league wings weren't taking 3s outside of fells. It's the same crap. Without Anderson we were near the bottom of the league in attempts last year. Every single guard-forward we had minus morrow used that as the go to. I have yet to see any offense in the nba currently that pump fakes so much at the 3 pt line. They freaking pump fake if they're open. But let's continue to blindly defend Monty and blame injuries over and over with every issue.

Pretty sure in your asinine attempt to use a bunch of negatives, you fricked up that sentence pretty badly.

Your constant whining about people defending some things Monty does well is far worse than anyone defending him.

He has a point. This article looks at 3PA attempts and agrees with SP to a certain extent.

quote:

I have found that he has tighter roles for players than most teams. Shooters are supposed to shoot (Belinelli, Anderson), point guards are expected to dribble a lot (Paul, Jack, Vasquez, Roberts, Holiday), and players outside of those two things have very defined methods of getting shots.

quote:

three point shots, even from borderline awful shooters in the NBA, are still more valuable than mid range jumpers. Monty Williams refuses to operate in such a world. His teams have finished below league average in three point attempt rate (percentage of threes as a whole of field goal attempts) every season. Roughly 19% of FGAs (3594/18867) under Monty Williams have been three point attempts. For a point of reference, the league average has been above 19% every year since 2003-2004

Monty doesn't place a high value on 3PA. Ariza or Gerald Green are likely wastes on offense in NO in the system we've seen because it hasn't (either b/c of players or scheme) generated many 3s for all but a handful of guys
