Pretty much every national writer had us taking Missi. Crazy that so many can peg a pick so easily at #21. We are as predictable as they come.

This is my only issue with the pick. Why are the guys we like in the draft so publicly known. This shows one major crack in our organizational processes IMO.

As for Missi, he’s got a ton of potential and at a position we have no young players currently. He also marks what I expect to be a pretty hard turn in the way we see our center and play schematically on the court. Super athletic 5’s drafted outside the lottery have had some decent hits.

I also like Holmes, but I do not agree we are a team that NEEDS an immediate contributor. We are not a title contender, no reason we can’t take a bigger swing.

It’s nit hard to figure out who our target is. Pretty much every 1st round pick back to Kira was known well ahead of time

Yeah, why did all the media seem so confident that we might draft a center this year? Or that we would draft a shooter last year?

It is not just a position or skill set, it is the exact player.

People can take a look at our needs and project out who will be available by the time we pick.

They knew we were getting one of about 4-5 centers but Messi was known to be the best rim protector of them and we need that element of defense.

Granted, Filipowski having a lot of offensive worth would have been another good projection for us and was in fact mocked to us by some outlets.

Is it that we follow the Pels more closely than other teams?

How many other teams are posters following nearly as closely to know if all their beat writers were saying similar things about their players?

TBH, a LOT of teams were unpredictable simply because teams above them made unexpected picks.

Whoever predicted Knect to the Lakers is a goddamn liar, for instance.

I really want Griff to buy into the 2nd round to draft Tyler Smith.

He’s a legit 6’10 with a 7’1 wingspan and he can really shoot the ball.

My excitement is mid but my expectations are low for second round picks in a terrible draft. Maybe they might be just as good as some of the first round picks.

Wasn't just beat writers. It was national writers. If we were top 6-8, it may be understandable, but at 21 it is kind of odd.

Our needs are pretty glaring and in two positions only (point and center) and there are only so many players which met them in that tier of talent.

This isn’t like Washington, where the draft guys were saying they needed everything. Sarr was a given for them but every subsequent pick could have been anything.

I agree it’s not optimal that we’ve kind of telegraphed drafting Murphy, Hawkins, and Missi (though less so with him).

However, without knowing a team’s draft board, it’s hard to tell what’s really going on. Look at PHX, draft guys have been saying for weeks that they wanted Missi. We’ll never know if that’s 100% true since Missi was gone. We might’ve had Edey higher and let people know we like Missi in hopes to get Edey.

I will say, I do believe the FO whenever they said they expected Missi to be gone by 21.

Imagine telegraphing your second round pick for months and every team is just like “ok cool.”

Yeah I don't get it. How can someone ahead of them not pick him either to spite the Lakers or to see how badly they really want to grab him and what it'll cost.

It's literally this. He's not a second round talent.

Yeah it is just so Bronny can say he was picked. If the Lakers do not pick him he would go undrafted and obviously would sign with the Lakers.
