there was no path to free agent shooters...none.
TOR just dumped two bad contracts and a 1st/2nd for an upgrade (miles) and got under the tax. if asik and or ajinca were even remotely tradeable they'd have done similar

there's nothing here to trade folks
best to accept that and see if they get lucky with veteran minimums

That's what he's doing. It's why I'm not freaking out about the lack of additions this offseason. Keep flexibility, wait for an under-performing team (Denver, Portland) or over-performing team (a few in the East that wants to tank but may flirt with an 8 seed, say Orlando) that doesn't like their situation come January, then make a move.
Problem is, that means we're playing at least into January with 3 real NBA starters on the roster. By that point we're the under performing team.

The guy I'm shocked they haven't been linked to yet is Michael Beasley. Seems like he could solve a lot of their bench problems. i.e. how in the hell is that lot going to score the basketball.

I mean, if they were considering Nick Young, why not just get Beasley for half the price. Basically the same player. (Beasley is a little worse 3pt shooter but actually has good efficiency the past couple of years -
shot 53% from the field last year.)

A bench of Lawson/Crawford/Miller/Beasly/Asik could at least score the basketball. Defense would be washed but they would at least be good at playing Gentry ball.

I mean Beasley's nick name is B-EASY for crying out lout. How is he not playing in the Big Easy?

Thing is, this offseason, it was the team that set those expectations. Not the fans.

Almost as soon as the season ended, the organization came out very strongly saying they were going to add shooting and another starter caliber PG/combo guard to play next to Jrue and share some of the ball handling duties.

So if/when we're going into the next season with Ty Lawson, Darius Miller and "continuity" as our big offseason acquisitions people will have every right to be pissed off. So will Boogie and Davis.

Well fellas, I are depressed.

Seems like our only hope is for Frank Jackson to turn out to be Monta Ellis.

There's a reason Lin for a 1st has become appealing.

Why is that? Desperation? He missed most of the season last year and was not great the year before. I have to think the Nets would laugh all the way to the draft if we gave them a 1st for him without at least dumping an unfavorable contract.

I'd be shocked if its lack of effort by the team
there was always a chance (and still is) they they swing and miss on all trade proposals.
that's the corner that dead weight contracts and roster spots have pushed the team into

what I don't want to see is a desperation move where we burn our last asset this year for the sake of a move, any move. if this is the team, maybe it's best to let demps die on this hill

That might be the spot we're in. I've probably defended Demps more than most, but there would be no excuse for this failure of an offseason if we're basically running it back next year.

He gets no credit for "almosts" or deals falling through, when he essentially made public what his offseason goals were.

SO basically we are fricked bc Dell has gotten us in debt with terrible contracts, but he still has a job.....

I mean havin AD/DC is outstanding, but surrounding them with a bunch of 2nd stringers and DLeaguers, with the exception of Jrue, is only delaying the inevitable......

In which case you're better off stretching Asik and dumping Ajinca/QPon to extend Cousins. Now Plan A has become hope fringe NBA players can step up and Plan B is probably Cal.

The only really bad contract is Asik. Ajinca, Moore, and Hill are on role player contracts. Also it has to be considered the Pels are a small market team that has to overpay for free agents until they can make them self a destination due to winning.

Pondexter's contract sucks only because he is injured. It looked great when he was healthy and playing.

ajinca is 5MM of unplayable and untradeable
Moore is 8MM backup talent
hill is 12MM backup talent

hard to maneuver when those guys are your assets

its not the overpaying that is an issue, we ALL know that. its the overpaying/bidding vs ourselves when we don't have to and talent evaluation.

How many assets have we given up in Demps tenure here for young vets only to let them under perform, let expire, or just simply become untradeable

No, what's depressing is that appears to be the plan. I'm not sure what to think of MM's recent info at this point, but I can definitely see Gentry and Demps disagreeing about Nick Young vs. Darius Miller.

Nick Young seemed to be a lock. Instead he takes a backup role on the Warriors for $5.2 mill. I know it's closer to $10 million if we pull the trigger on NY but man we could of used him.

Zach Lowe said the Warriors even thought he was going to the Pels. So what would have made us pull the offer? Did Darius Miller call Demps and he decided Miller > Swaggy? I suppose that's possible but it seems like we'd have used the MLE on someone else by now. I think he must have had a deal lined up to send out salary that fell apart. With the likely targets I wonder if he had Asik for Lin lined up and then Toronto screwed us by offering more to dump Carroll.
