Ty Lawson

Ty Lawson from the Denver days would be great for this team. Not DUI Ty. He can go.

maybe not ty Lawson but they do need a ball handler
I’m not comfortable as is with just Payton and holiday... who is the backup PG on this team?

Wallace would be interesting. He has some Pat Beverley to his game I think

Really not trying to be funny or insulting but a guy who’s a recovering alcoholic may not want to go to a place where alcohol is so prevalent. I think Lawson may not be a good idea here.

As of now I guess it's Frank Jackson. And I'm sure Jrue gets some time at point, especially to finish out games.

So odd to constantly hear that. If someone wants alcohol, do you not think they can easily get it in any city anytime? New Orleans does not have a monopoly on alcohol or a night life.

Danny leroux

quote:

It feels like Jodie Meeks to the Pelicans should happen in the next week since it would cut costs for the Wizards and the Pelicans have a Pondexter TE expiring 9/1 that Meeks fits into

Meeks sucks and he’s suspended for like 20 games but his salary would be useful. Pels still only have 12 guaranteed contracts. how awesome would it be though if the pels could work it into an even better trade though by including some dead weight and getting back Kelly Oubre? Oubre would immediately start for this team

or satoransky

also on WAS
they are 18MM over the tax line with 14 gtd contracts and will not have cap space next year if they don’t move some of next yrs money.

the chance to maybe steal a player from them now may be there. I can’t imagine they will be sellers at the deadline especially if they get an injury and Oubre and/or satoransky are contributing. you don’t get what you don’t ask for, I’m sure if they’ve spoken about Meeks others players have come up. either player would immediately help

Interesting note from nylon calculus
they looked at players who in short, could maintain efficiency and take more shots

LINK

read the article for the stats and method but here’s the money shot

quote:

To find players that could maintain efficiency I will look for players higher than average eFG%, with larger traffic lights, and more orange and red lights. My pick for increased workload from the Creative Scorers group is Elfrid Payton. I have actually written about him before and I think he could be an asset on a team with quality offensive players. Speaking of quality offensive players on the Pelicans, my second choice is Julius Randle from the Skilled Paint Dweller category. Both Julius Randle and Elfrid Payton should benefit from being surrounded by other great offensive players. There might not be enough shots for both of these players playing with Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday, but I expect them to remain highly efficient scorers.

Yes, it would be awesome.... for us. But wouldn't make any sense for Washington, and its why it hasn't happened.

If Washington was desperate to get off either of those guys to save lux tax money, they could do so with ease in February. And probably get an asset.

The other 29 teams don't just exist to help out our fan fantasies. They do things that are in their best interest. If we want Meeks, we can have him. But they aren't giving up a quality player too. And they don't even have a second rounder they can give us until 2022

Best case scenario is they give us Meeks and $3.5 mil in cash for a fake 2nd. Pels basically tell him to sit at home while they wait to trade him and Washington pays his salary. Washington does this because it saves them money.

Sounds like it would make sense for both teams. Basically converts an expiring TPE into a potentially tradeable asset in Feb.

in addition to the QPon TPE expiring on 9/1, there's also this

quote:

New Orleans also has 2 players, DeAndre Liggins ($75K) and Emeka Okafor ($100K) that have a Sept. 1 date to guarantee a small part of their contract.

Just did the math -- removing Meeks from their books would save the Wiz a little over 10 million dollars when you consider lux tax

They are currently in the bracket where they pay $2.50 for every dollar they are over. Removing Meeks would not only remove his salary and the lux tax payment on his salary, but would also move the into the $1.75 bracket.

10 million dollars. Dell could ask for Meeks and 5 mil for a fake 2nd rounder and Wiz would be smart to pay that. Dell then uses that money to pay about 2 mil of Meeks salary (before he trades him mid season) and comes out up 3 million. Plus he has extra salary to include in a trade.

It just makes too much sense. Which means it won't happen

sorry for the ignorance, but what do you mean be a "fake 2nd"?

Each team in a trade needs to send something. The Pels would send something unlikely to be delivered like a top 55 protected 2nd rounder. Since it’s unlikely that the Pels finish as a top 5 team it’s a “fake” 2nd.

Lol, we have AD, Evil Jrue, Beardless Miosis, Julius Randle, Future Rondo and Future Westbrook, and Dealer Dell. Top 5 is a lock.
