It doesn't seem like a sustainable way to run things, but I guess it must be working pretty well $$ wise for the people that make the decisions (both owners and players).

Of course it won’t, which is why I suspect this peak will have an ugly downfall when a lot of the new fans, many younger, many turning away from football, get fed up with how imbalanced everything is.

I wouldn't believe that for 1 second. This current TV deal is INSANE and the teams are selling more merch than ever before. Multiple teams with new arenas and franchise values have absolutely SKYROCKETED over the last 10 years.
Benson bought the pelicans less than 8 years ago for a measly 330 million. Probably worth triple that today. shite might even be up to a billion with the zion addition.
Our good friend Bill Simmons said it on his pod the other day. Every billionaire could just buy a bigger boat than the next guy. But only 30 billionaires get to own an NBA team. NOLA might not be a sexy market, but I guarantee if Queen B said frick it, I'm out, there would be guys breaking down the doors for a shot at ownership.

Of course, the league is in a bubble. How proactive the league is toward its consumer base is going to determine how long that bubble lasts.
As fans ultimately drive all of it.
Growth has been good for the league, but growth and sustained interest is not an indefinite given.

Yes. But the size of the market will inform the selling price of the team.
The Pels could go Golden State and win 3 out of 5 finals yet still be worth less than a number of other big market franchises simply because a team like the Lakers, Knicks, Bulls, etc being run competently is worth a ton of money.
Hence the Clippers and Warriors selling for top dollar.

It’s like u don’t watch basketball. Pierce, garnet, Allen? Shaq Kobe Malone Payton (Malone and Payton were too old). The bulls picking up Rodman. Look at the pistons with dumars Thomas lambeer. The Celtics with bird Parish and McHale. Lakers with magic Kareem worthy.
I could go on and on. Super teams have damned near always won everything , regardless how they came together. The pistons and the Mavs are the most notable teams to really do it without a ton of super stars.

The NBA the last decade has been a coastal league.
In fact the championship has went to a grand total of 4 teams since 2009 I believe.

I just think it's way overblown. I would love a sustained wide open NBA too.
We've been hearing how the NBA would be dead due to superteams every year going on 10 years now. It's wayyyy bigger and wayyyy more popular than it was then, and it will keep going.

Not arguing that the big markets aren't worth more. But the small markets are worth WAY more than they were just a decade ago. WAY more.
The next TV/Streaming deal is going to be MASSIVE after the current ESPN/TNT runs out.

Pretty much. But it's kind of been that way for decades, the only difference now is that FA & off-the-court friendships accelerate these mergers, not solely front offices.
Way back when, if you drafted or received a trade that got you players like Bird/McHale, Magic/Kareem/Worthy, or a Jordan/Pippen, you pretty much were in contention for championships, all by luck or savvy front offices.
When Tom Chambers became the first UFA in the late 80s, then you started to see the player initiated tandems like Shaq/Kobe or Big 3 groupings like LeBron/Wade/Bosh or Garnett/Pierce/Allen to the ridiculously unfair Big 4 + ring-chaser Warrior teams.
Most fans are sick of it. Parity is way more exciting.

The fact that teams have broken up and new ones have formed is part of what saved things IMHO.
The Heat fade while Cleveland rises. The Warriors make the jump from also ran to superpower. The Warriors disintegrate while the Raptors persevere thanks to one star and a ton of depth. Etc.
If it were just 15 years of the Heatles vs the Spurs or Mavs, it would have been an issue.

If Kawhi skips the Lakers then this will be the most wide open the NBA has been in a decade. And I honestly think super teams will trend downward.
