I’m pleased with the progress this season, But, the acquisition of another star would be huge, for making us a serious contender, but also for reading fan base next season

Yep, I know that’s kind of a Captain Obvioudms statement, but what are some realistic possibilities? I know it’s complicated with salary considerations and the looming Boogie decisions. Just for fun, can anyone come up with anything that could actually happen and that would work for this team?

Ms. B loves the Pelicans more than the Saints imo. She was behind a lot of the new identity of the team.

I think she wants to make Mr. B proud.

She's gonna drop some cash on a fourth man.

Would have to be by trade.

Paul George - decides he wants to play with us, opts in to his contract. We trade for him.

Kemba Walker - expiring deal. Maybe Charlotte decides to move on. He’s only at 12 mil per.

I’d be cool with them just re-signing Boogie/Rondo and trying to get someone like Ariza.

Well, we can't because of the Salary Cap. Someone would have to want our trash.

Everyone will have to just consider Cousins our "big offseason signing".

It's going to have to be a deal similar to the Mirotic trade this season.

I'm not going through the trouble of matching salaries but I could see 2019 1st + Moore (Hill preferred, but I doubt anyone is taking him on), + fillers (Ajica, Diallo, Miller, etc.) for a wing player on a rebuilding/taking team looking to blow it up.

Fournier from Orlando is the first name that comes to mind.

Maybe Batum if Charlotte blows it up?

Not my favorite, but Wes Matthews is probably someone in our range of realistic options.

If you get a LeBron or Paul George it's because they personally demanded a trade here and in George's case he'd need to be willing to take $10 million less to come here. It just doesn't seem very likely.

Playoff Rondo agreeing to stay for cheap would complicate targeting a big money guard. Are Kemba or McCollum so much better than Playoff Rondo making $20 million less that it's worth giving up our depth (Niko/Moore) + future assets (picks/Diallo)?

I think people need to be thinking much smaller. Probably splitting the Taxpayer MLE between Ian Clark and another Darius Miller level gamble.

I do think the Pels could potentially get in on any star player movement at the trade deadline, especially if Diallo continues to progress making him either an asset to trade or someone ready to take Niko's place if you trade Mirotic.

Slated to make $17 million next year. Would probably be more realistic to trade for than

I could see Orlando wanting to blow it up. The most likely trade I could see would be E'twaun Ajinca and a first. If we could make out like bandits and trade Hill Ajinca and a first though..

Kemba
-Chalotte might want to blow it up, but they will only trade Kemba if they can offload salary which we cannot really take on
-only trade that I could see from them would be something like Mirotic, Moore, Ajinca and pick(s) for Kemba + MKG/Zeller/Marvin Williams

Otto Porter
-Washington is gong to look at retooling around Beal and Wall imo. Maybe they decide Wall is the bad apple but I don't think the Wiz can get close to the value they'd want from him or Beal. Porter they might. This one could revolve around Boogie since he has a strong relationship with Wall. I'm not sure how a trade with Boogie would work. BUT it could happen even absent of Boogie with again trading them Moore/Mirotic/Ajinca (pick?) for Porter.

Leonard
-who knows

Kent Bazemore
-this is one is interesting. I think we could get him on the cheap and if Atlanta bites on Solo/Ajinca and picks (hopefully 2 2nds) for Bazemore, I'd jump so damn quick.

DeMarre Carroll
-almost the exact same as Bazemore except I think Carroll a better fit for us and because he would be on the last year of his deal, he might be easier to trade for. But also would we have the money to resign him after next season putting us in the exact same spot without a SF?

Paul George
-only chance we have is if we convince him to opt into the last year of his deal (giving him around 10-13 mil less) and demands a trade to the Pels. Seems highly unlikely.

Andre Igoudala and Khris Middleton could also be trade targets, and while you could make an argument why they would be traded from their respective teams, I think those two are pretty unlikely.

Fournier imo would be a mistake. I think he's a big contract whose offensive numbers are inflated because he's on a bad team. Beautiful shot, great off the ball, below average defender and we'd have him on the wing. Not ideal for $17 mil a year. At least Bazemore has the athleticism to guard NBA wings.

We need to find a 3&D sf, we don't need a ball dominant guy like Fournier who isn't great on defense imo.

We're getting beat because we can't defend. We can score efficiently.

we NEED a tough 6'6"+ SF that can hit open 3s consistently and play tough D. Jrue and E'twan are doing all they can but just are too small to guard the likes of KD, PG13 hell even Rudy Gay. Unless we dont resign boogie or trade Niko we probably can't afford one in free agency. Hopefully we can hit on our second rounder!

Maybe a guy like Jacob Evans from Cincy can fall to us..

Not saying what is good but:
1. Big player.
Only way to get big player is to trade for him.
Like Boogie in s & t for Porter.
Or PG13 demanding a trade while using his player option (George for Mirotic and Moore).
2. Bigger trade. Using Mirotic and/or Moore. And Ajinca with his biggest value at the 2019 trade deadline.
3. Using tax-player MLE on one free agent. Using BAE and remaining trade exceptions.
4. Trade future pick.

But remember. You have Rondo to sign (he can get $3.9m using bird rights; or BAE or up to t-P MLE). There is no other way to sign him unless he signs for a minimum.
Ian Clark the same story.

don't need a big signing. the big signing is DeMarcus.

we're a wing shooter away from where we need to be. not an all-world wing either. Carroll would be great IMO.

I really want to see an Anjiica for Mike Muscala sign and trade. I think Moose is Mirotic-lite. He doesn't have the full offensive arsenal that Mirotic has, but he gives you perimeter shooting from a big who can rebound and defend against C's. He's quick to get back on defense, plays smart help defense, and isn't an oaf if he gets switched onto smaller players.

As much as I like Niko, I would like to see us trade Anjiica + 2nd + cash for Muscala and then move Niko in part of a package for a cost controlled wing.

Just like any other team trying to beat the Warriors, you don't need more offensive firepower bc I will never match G.S. on that end of the court.

What is needed is elite wing defenders who can at least cause frustration to KD, Steph and Klay, especially someone who can give fits to KD. We see it can happen with Jrue, but he's just 2 small. So you need someone 6'7 or better that can guard KD. That allows Jrue to go back to guarding Steph.

Wish I could make a more accurate assessment if Boogie played in this series bc then you put AD on KD and see if he can guard him on the perimeter. What I do realize though is that Solo is not the 3&D player we hoped he would be.

He has been a liability on both ends and should be included in any trade for an elite wing defenders.

A 1st plus Solo and whatever else it takes to get such a player is the 3rd most important move this off-season. We are not far off and honestly, besides Houston and a healthy Boston team, we are the only team that can even think about knocking off the Warriors.

right. and they also need to be able to offer something on offense. even if you can gum up the Warriors offense, their best guys can create a good shot out of thin air.

as good as healthy Cousins is, i don't think he makes the Pels that much better in this series. he'll get his numbers and draw fouls, but defensively, he's too slow and too inconsistent. he will get exposed over the long haul in this series.

Davis at the 5 is the best chance any team has of slowing down Golden State. the Pels just don't have any tall wings who can stay on the floor and compete at this level. Davis on KD is not a matchup the Pels should want- leaving Cousins or Mirotic as your rim protector is not great. having Davis chase Durant through pin downs and on the ball v PnR is not his strength and it will wear him down even more quickly.

they got that switch a couple of times and Davis held his own, but i wouldn't want to see the Pels go to that over the course of a game.

Except it’s proven to be the exact opposite. You gotta flirt with 50% from the field, 40% from 3 and get to the line to have a chance. You could take the 5 best defenders in the nba and the warriors would still score at will

We need more perimeter length other than Solomon Hill and Miller. Too bad you can’t combine their skillset
