I would like to hear peoples opinions on Monty.

Heres mine. I was adamant about it last year until we had a bunch of injuries and couldnt really help it. But at what point will Monty be put on a "hot seat." He needs to put up. Seriously. I think hes, right now, an above average coach. But how long will we stick with an "above average coach" and continue to not go anywhere in the NBA.

I think this is the year he needs to prove himself and if he doesnt he needs to get kicked top the curb. Theres absolutely no reason we cant make AT LEAST the #8 spot with our talent. Any good coach should be able to do it. And he cant. HE GOT TO GEAUX!

There are about 10 reasons in the West why they wouldn't get the 8 seed.

They can have a good year and miss the playoffs. For me, the defense needs to be top 10 or close to it. If he can't do that with Asik and Davis, he needs to go.

If he makes the playoffs, I think he keeps his job.

I think he's an above average assistant coach, but he leaves a lot to be desired in game time adjustments, rotations, and Xs&Os.

Playoffs or bust IMO for him.

He's had an injury-riddled roster, insane roster turnover, and most importantly, AD loves him.

I don't see him going anywhere.

IMO, the injuries and the fact that the team kept fighting are the only reasons why he is still hear. I think he has to make the playoffs or miss them by less than 2-3 games. If we aren't in contention the last week of the regular season (barring major injury bug) HE GONE!

I'm of the opinion that he is simply not a good head coach. He's good with working with players individually, developing them, and they like him. Perfect for an assistant.

As a game manager, he sucks beyond belief. And his X's & Os are laughably bad.

He will have to wow the hell out of me this year to want him to stay.

That's fixable with the right assistants and a willingness to listen to them. I'm still skeptical that he'll change his ways, but if he does fix his negatives, the positives he has are pretty strong. He definitely has a way with players not named Marcus Thornton. Anthony Morrow credits Monty with his career resurrection.

quote:

"Honestly, a lot of what helped me was playing for Monty Williams last year," Morrow said without prompting. "Just the way he's building the organization, in terms of working hard from start to finish, that mentality of trying to build it up to a San Antonio, Oklahoma City caliber team. And I think me buying into that and preparing for that has really helped me, put me in a good position with a team like Oklahoma City."

At some point the fan base needs to move on. Thornton has proven to be an entertaining, yet throughly mediocre player. He's a slightly better, and less swaggy, Nick Young. Team hasn't missed out on much. Plus Landry was a good get.

3PA are promising. Still hard hedging isn't. Rotations will be interesting

If I don't acknowledge it the extreme Monty haters will derail the thread with the stupid "what players has Monty really improved" argument where they find a way to disqualify every example of player improvement provided.

I do think the team has to make the playoffs or barely miss this season. I think they'll get there barring another injury nightmare.

And I agree that his relationship with AD is sort of a big deal.
