The most important thing the Pelicans can do this offseason is extend AD. Monty's uncertain future past his contract was a black cloud that makes it difficult for AD to commit not knowing who his coach would be during his extended contract. I'd guess that was ultimately the determining factor to fire Monty.

I'd have to assume with the timing that there is someone out there they reasonably think they can get, right? Otherwise why not fire him two weeks ago?
