I feel this the glaring hole we have is hyper exaggerated. Fans believe their team is going to compete for a championship every year and/or the team should use every asset to chase that dream.

In reality Griffin has preached a slow methodical approach that would take time to build. I think there’s a plan, and competing at the highest level will always be the goal.

I don’t expect any roster turnover before the deadline. We eventually may consolidate some assets but that’ll be after this upcoming playoff run.

…. Also Jaxson Hayes may have fallen out of favor with fans (again) but I feel like they love him IN HOUSE

But we're here now and ready. We did build slow. Zion is in year 4, we're wayyyyy behind a normal timeline.

Look at Memphis, Ja is also in his 4th year. They won 50+ last season, they're well ahead of us on the timeline, we're still playing catch up just to that team.

This is fine, provided we tried to upgrade but just didn't get the right guy/value but we 100% should be looking to add pieces before the deadline.

These windows close real quick, even when you think you have years and years with your max guys and young guys. It's the outlier, not the norm for a core group to be together for 4+ years of contending.

But the 3rd big is more so for the regular season. Meaning, you can't really have 3 bigs in a smaller playoff rotation.

That's a good point, and I think Pels have put too much mileage on Nance this regular season. Your right in that traditional bigs are easily schemed against in the playoffs but Nance is a bit undersized for big minutes at the 5. What I mean is that one of the underrated values of Val is that he not only gets boards but he also often prevents paint boards from getting grabbed from the wings because he takes up so much space. Brown, Tatum, and Pritchard killed us in this area yesterday with Val out. This might be attributed to Nance being less than 100% but I see his role as a PF and a small ball 5 (close outs).

I don't agree with the people that think shooting is the biggest priority, but a 3rd rebounding big is a very glaring hole. When JV goes out we just don't have anyone that's comparable getting boards except Billy, who has the same weaknesses as JV so rarely is the answer when we have to pull JV.

I respect everything you said.

Balancing the check book is also a vital part of sustainable success.

Zion is essentially playing in his second season and as long as he’s still walking out championship window is open, he’s that special.

With a slow build or organic in nature. Fiscal responsibility is just as important as the product on the floor.

By all means we’re exactly where we need to be and may be overachieving at a high rate. Just my thoughts but the off-season is when we’ll enter the next phase of team building.

Our wings need to rebound better. They rarely crash the boards. A philosophy change may be the simplest cure imo. We have smart and athletic players but I totally agree that’s one of the teams biggest opportunities to improve.

Basically, Vanderbilt is too good to be the 3rd big IMO.

He would essentially be redundant with Nance, IMO. Doesn’t solve the third big issue because none of them are a third big.

Rebounding is probably the most misunderstood stat out there. I often compare it to RBIs, in MLB. We have at least one player who is basically a scavenger rebounder...and therefore, has inflated numbers. Most of the time a "scavenger" has his own personal reasons for being this type of rebounder. I won't go into what those reasons usually are.

Bottom line, we will be fine rebounding, on both ends of the court...once things get serious. We have SEVERAL players that can be MUCH more effective rebounding the ball...when things get serious and they are actually asked, to do so. I worry about several things with this current Pels squad...overall offensive play...and rebounding...are 2 things that are NOT on my worrying list.

Memphis is ahead of us because their star has playoff experience that Zion lacks. No trade we make this year will give Zion that experience. It’s something that has to come naturally.

You don’t see me calling for any trades Dink!

This doesn’t go unnoticed and why I wasn’t hitching my wagon with the talking heads when it first came out that “Zion needs to rebound better”

With that being said, I don’t believe in flipping switches. We need to lay the groundwork before things get “serious.”

I understand why the “basketball season” doesn’t start until Xmas but again I don’t believe in flipping switches and I hate digging out of holes.

Yeah, until you really need one Dinky. Rebounding is a stat that does have a wide variance in terms of game importance. Sure you have stat-padders, but the stat-padders tend to also be good rebounders. There is hardly a play more deflating in the game than in a close contest where you need a defensive stop, play good defense, and then allow an offensive board. Absolute killer ....

Nance was great at this (clutch rebounding) last year in the playoffs, but he was also fresh. Aside from Val and Zion, Pels are on the lower curve when it comes to girth and the Pels rebounding advantage is not so much when Val is out of the game. Nance is obviously not completely healthy (possibly due to him splitting time nearly even with Val at the 5 this year). I wouldn't be mad at a deal (third big), even just for a little insurance.

I don’t have your confidence that “Playoff Focus” will solve the rebounding issues when they go small, but one key ingredient that has been missing is Ingram. His length as a secondary defender and rebounder helps and we haven’t seen it in forever.

Thanks. I was just going to point out that Ingram rebounds very well for his position and helps that problem when he gets back.

Overall, I am very skeptical about messing up team chemistry for a marginal improvement. I will be upset if we give up assets for a shooter who might be a little bit better than Graham.

If we make a move, it needs to significantly improve the team, like the trade last year for CJ and Larry did. Yeah, our tight "family" hurt when it lost Hart and NAW, but everyone understood that it was necessary. That's the only kind of trade I want to see us make -- one that results in a clear and obvious upgrade.

We really do have the deepest team in the league. We are the only team in the NBA with 11 players who have a positive Total RAPTOR score (Celtics are 2nd with 10 positive players). RAPTOR isn't perfect, but a very advanced metric says that we have eleven players giving us above-average play.

RAPTOR says that our biggest weakness is our starting center, which should be obvious to anyone who's watched our team start almost every game in the hole, until we get Larry in the game.

JV is just might be too old and slow to be a championship center. He's a big defensive liability. The problem is that, when we pull him for Larry, we can struggle to get rebounds.

When you have one center who can't defend but who can rebound, and you have another center who can't rebound but who can defend, then it stands to reason that the solution is to get a guy who can do both.

This isn’t always the case. When he does make it an emphasis to grab boards the team is generally hitting on all cylinders and we’re a tough out.

I just think we'll be a solid rebounding team, come playoff time. This year, we are currently averaging 45.2 rebounds per game (6th best) while only giving up 41.9 rebounds per game (4th best).

And we'll get even better, rebounding wise...with Ingram & Zion getting huge minutes and being quite a bit more motivated to get those rebounds.

And hate to say it but...if WG wants more rebounds from Herb...all he has to do...is tell Herb to be more aggressive on the boards...but to be honest I like the way WG has Herb coasting in regards to rebounding...and concentrating on doing other things, rather than pounding the boards. Herb is obviously our most important "get back guy" which is why he is limited to what we call "drive-by rebounding" on the offensive end.

Overall, we'll be in great shape...rebounding wise.

each playoff made morant work on his game off season.
all the key players experienced the gsw series loss. at least competitive, compare vs previous year vs 1 seed Utah where goebert destroyed j Val. imho
that utter destruction is why memphis dealt jv.
remains to be seen if the 10 17 part of the trade was win win or a pels luck win. ziaire williams is playing again after missing 30+ games with a knee injury.
tm3 is underperforming our hopes.
edit: there they are!
tm3 starts in win. 19.
jval boards and scores. big game.
