“Code” in our case probably means a lot of switching to where Herb, Dyson, etc, get switched onto the biggest perimeter threat on the other team if we get the opportunity.

Having multiple guys capable of doing that likely means we don’t have to keep one defensive stud on the floor 48 minutes or accept that the other team goes on a run when they sit.

For sure, folks forget the same players scoring have to defend the other team from scoring. They're a switch defense but eventually get put in bad matchups.

I don't think there is a full explanation for that net rating, but I do think those two playing together causes more turnovers and transition buckets. When Dyson is on the court, herb is able to play more of a nickelback role, if that makes any sense. He's not having to guard the best opposing offensive player so he can hang off his man a bit and disrupt everything else

I think Willie deserves credit for our defense but we were a top defense last year and lost in the play in. Question is how important is having a top defense in the regular season relative to success especially in the playoffs? Playoffs in all honesty everyone starts playing defense. In todays NBA its imperative to have a high caliber offense and offensive lineups just as it is playing defense if not more.

This won’t help us this season but I bet the Wolves’ playoff run will show how well this works.

Gobert’s a perennial DPOY candidate and winner but the Jazz could never keep it together in the playoffs even when they had a great regular season.

I don’t know what thread to post this in but for my gambling brethren, Herb 1 steal and 1 three made parlayed is -154. In Herbert I trust

JMO...I think I posted this the other day...but here I go again. I like to look for possible "changes in style of play"...for individual players. Catch it early & act quickly, you can usually snatch a few fairly easy winning props...before Vegas decides to make adjustments.

At the moment...I think Herb, after a probable "suggestion" from Willie...has, for the past coupla games...become MUCH more aggressive on the boards. Quite noticeable...in the past coupla games. Not sure what # you have on "total rebounds" for Herb tonight...but I'll be playing the "over" on that one...as a stand-alone wager.

JMO: I COULD...be wrong...so...DON'T BET THE FARM !!!...(unless it's a fairly small farm)

For example, he's usually our #1 "get back" guy on defense so doesn't go all the way in for offensive rebounds. That seems to have changed in past 2 games. Could likely have something to do with DD being out. DD is very aggressive rebounder...on BOTH ends. Good luck.

What app are you using? I don't even see the option to use Herb on steals or to drop the o/u on 3's to 1 instead of 1.5. Didn't know you could do that on a SGP.

I'd probably play the "over"...all the way up to "5"...but bear in mind...I'm an idiot...at times.

I freaking love the lineup with Dyson and Herb man. Talk about length and size.. those two baws play some lockdown defense. I’m an optimist and we’ve got some player salaries to work around but damn I’m excited to see the development of those two baws. You have to appreciate players that play the game the right way, don’t care about stats. They just want to win

I always use Fanduel. You go to player threes and there is a tab for 1+ made threes and then go to defense to find 1+ player steals

Btw, the Herb 1 3 made and 1 steal parlay is now -193. Let’s go Herbert, my favorite Bama boy

They give up the second fewest shots from 0-6 feet out, but when opponents do get to the rim they shoot the 6th best against us. So we're good preventing shots at the rim, but if they ever get to the rim no one is stopping them

quote:

I meant that 3 point % in general has a fair amount of luck to it. I’m unsure how much luck ours has involved- it seems like we’ve “cracked the code” the last two years where we give up a lot of looks but get teams to shoot poorly on them? That seems somewhat unsustainable when stated that way, but over 2 years suggests it may not be? It’s strange.

I think these two observations go hand in hand. Not all wide-open looks are equal as some defenses will "concede" the open look generated from a side to side pass, in order to take away dribble penetration/drive and kick. Will Wade touches a bit on this strategy at the 2:40 mark. Ideally you get back and contest those shots too so they aren't wide open, but you can't take away everything.

Easier to shoot when the pass is coming from the paint with the hoop already in your line of vision.

With the stats showing we successfully limit shot attempts at the rim, that seems to indicate that we are limiting those inside out looks. Yeah, there's some luck involved, but the wide-open percentages seem mostly by design.
