I imagine it will not be long before the Hawks insider claim that things fell apart and that trade negotiations are fluid, etc.

Why hasn't anyone linked to this 'Hawks insider' yet

He's been linked in other threads including the long Jrue trade thread I believe

It’s becoming easier to list the teams who are NOT pursuing Jrue Holiday on some level. The market is really robust, which is telling in and of itself.

A great player on a big but not huge contract who’s almost a star but not quite

This isn’t surprising at all. Jrue is the perfect 3rd/4th option player for a playoff contender. Best back court defender in the league who can score when need be.

About 28 teams want to make the playoffs this year and the players they need for that won't come from the draft or free agency.

It would’ve leaked if there was a trade agreed, right? We’re not getting some bomb dropped in 40 minutes are we?

Right I've said it again and again...this offseason is a perfect storm for a Jrue trade. Horrible Free Agency, weak draft at the top (but relatively deep), super shortened offseason so veterans increase drastically in value, and a significant arms race in both conferences at the top.

Of course we could have every team involved in the league, but if they are all offering crap, then all you have is crap to choose from.

Its unlikely that a trade of this magnitude (pop pop) would get agreed to until draft night.

The more and more that comes out, the less likely I think it is that Jrue is on our roster opening night.

At least one team has to jump up above everyone else to get him.

I think that's a forgone conclusion.
There's way too much smoke for him to not be traded at this point. There's obviously been talks b/w Griff and Jrue, and Jrue's not going to be a Pelican this year.

Agreed. I've just seen it mentioned that if the value isn't there we could hold on to him until the trade deadline.

With all the leaks it sounds like the value is already there. Now we're just trying to squeeze as much juice as possible out.

The only way it doesn't happen is if all of these reports are wrong, and Griffin can't find a good deal for Jrue.

Otherwise, there's no way we can go into the season with the Jrue stuff hanging over the team. Those guys are gonna get bombarded with Jrue trade questions before and after every game. Its gonna be the AD situation all over again.

I disagree with that. He's not a malcontent. Things will be ok if they have to do so. And i honestly think a trade deadline bidding war my yield more.

I don’t expect to know anything firm until the Pels know the specific options on draft night.

For instance, if they want Halliburton at #6 they could have a deal pending IF he’s available at 6. If he’s gone I’d guess they’d have other pending deals. Can’t imagine they pull the trigger on any deal until then.

Maybe, maybe not. I lean towards not.

Right now you have a bunch of teams who think they're only a missing piece away from contending. Once the season starts that number starts to dwindle.

At the trade deadline, if a team is playing well and is in position to contend, why blow it up?

And if you're just jockying for playoff seeding, you're probably not sending out anything extra just to get eliminated in the 2nd round instead of the first.

I think right now you'll get a team who thinks they are a piece away and are willing to send out the future assets that the Pelicans are interested in.

You would think a team would give up more with a year left on his contract instead of half a year, and would give up more to have him in camp in an already shortened offseason.

Agreed.

That, plus more teams being more optimistic in the offseason leads me to feel we get more now.
