Maybe I'm just tripping -- but I thought for sure the dude was at least 6'9", maybe even 6'10" -- he's a beast with a massive wingspan.

ESPN listed profile -- 6'7"!!!!

While we’re on the topic, he leads the Pels in FG% (outside of Dyson Daniels 6 shots).

Shooting 60% from the field.

Yep, I always say you don't block shots and rebound with the top of your head.

Are players playing without shoes now?

His functional height is his height with shoes, which is what most players go by.

In 2019, the NBA changed measurement rules so that heights without shoes are used. Lots of players' listed heights shrunk. So apples to apples, Nance's official height is 6'7.

I’m aware, and I’m not denying that his actual height is 6’7, but that isn’t his functional height. Most guys who have historically been listed at 7’, are really 6’10 or 6’11. Hell AD, Dwight Howard, and Durant aren’t even 6’10.

If I put on high heels, it doesn't make my functional height 6'5". There were years of shoe shenanigans at the combine, and the league recognized it and changed it. The first year, I remember several players measuring well over 2 inches taller with shoes on. There is literally no basketball value to those 2 inches. In fact, it increases risk to the ankles.

The point is to measure the athlete, not their accessories. Or should we allow them to wear top hats and measure those, too?

If they are measured in the shoes that they wear while playing, that is their functional height on the court. If two players are the same height and one guy wears shoes that are 1.5” and another wears shoes that are 2.5”, the second guy is functionally 1” taller while playing

A hat is a dumb comparison, as adding height to your feet makes your shoulders and arms “taller”, adding something to the top of your head is irrelevant.

Correct, but if you put on the shoes you'll wear in the game, that indeed does make your functional height whatever it is.

This sorta reminds of everyone being so focused on 40 times in the combine when the cone drills are much more important. Who cares what your height is without shoes if you're never playing a game without shoes on? Whatever your height is in the equipment/apparel you wear in the game is the most important measurement.

You don’t think adding 2 inches to a player’s standing reach is relevant?
