I sort of imagine they have a midnight deal lined up for him since it's clear they are openly talking about trades, still, it's an odd direction to go. But of course, it's simply the framework, might have some picks as well, or might make more sense based on whoever is coming back for Dipo.

why would you trade 13/14/26 for 9?

I'd rather 13 and 14 than 9.

Kind of goes hand-in-hand with what Adam Kaufman was saying on Twitter.

McNamara says that Kemba has a 15 million trade kicker that Boston would have to eat.

So that doesn't seem likely to me?

Agreed on that. To me 9 to 13 is basically just equal value.

Whoever is likely to slip from some of their higher projections likely goes before 9 and there is no one person I am enamored with that I think for sure is there at 9 but not 13.

And at 13 and 14 you could basically grab some combo of a guard(Lewis/Maxey), a wing like Nesmith, or the best stretch five in the draft Jalen Smith(who from a prospect perspective is pretty damn close to what you want around Zion: stretch big, rim protector, runs the floor well, good rebounder). And I'm not sure any one player you could get at 9 would be better than that combo.

To be fair he said "what amounts to" not that it was exactly 15 million. If its owed on the balance of his salary that would be about 15 mill

Do we know the date that the 20-21 league year starts?

I'm asking because if a Kemba/Jrue trade occurs in the 19-20 league year, then Kemba can't receive a trade kicker because he's maxed out his salary this season.

ETA: I'm assuming it's November 20th.

Right, but the date for the new league year start hasn't been released, as I know. It will be after the draft and before FA signings though.

This is from the schedule Marc Stein put out:

Nov. 20: Free agency starts at 6 PM

Nov. 22: Free agent signings can begin at 12:01 PM

To me that 2 day period looks like your yearly moratorium where they calculate the league earnings and figure out the new cap.

You think it has something to do with Kemba?

I dont think 3 more years at 35 is that that bad
He is overpaid for what he does but it's not that bad

Really depends.

If the plan is to move Lonzo than it's not really that big a deal.

But if you are planning on keeping him there is both the fit and the cost issue.

Seeing it is three and not four years sort of makes me see a few different paths the trade could make sense.

I said before I personally don't hate getting pick 14. To me an ideal Zion/Ingram team(at this stage) needs an offensively capable off/on-ball guard that can run a half-court(Kemba could be that), another position versatile wing with dead eye range and high defensive IQ(someone like Nesmith fits that), and a rim-protecting stretch five(Jalen Smith in the first or Daniel Oturu in the second).

Celtics get: Jrue

Don’t see a fit issue with Lonzo and Kemba

Ok. Now we are talking.

Give me

6, Reddish, Dedmon, Celtics Young Player

I’d ask for Carsen Edwards or Robert Williams from Celtics I guess.

I’d be ok with deal.
