He offers no rim protection and is not a great rebounder. He also has missed a lot of games each season. Why WCJ?
Hes a switchable versatile defender, shoots the 3 well and is on a good contract.

Have seen WCJ mentioned a few times as a target. Can anyone explain why, other than a reasonable contract? He offers no rim protection and is not a great rebounder. He also has missed a lot of games each season. Why WCJ?
He’s a pretty good defender even if he doesn’t have great counting stats like blocks, his rim protection stats aren’t bad (-4.6% DIFF at the rim), and he shoots 3 pointers. His rebounding stats were fine outside of this season.
His injury history is concerning though.

WCJ/ Mitchell Robinson/ Capella are the (3) centers we can get without giving up a large amount of assets and the teams are willing to let them go.

I don't love any of those three. Would rather spend assets on Kessler.

But he would fit Willie’s defensive scheme very well. He shot the 3 at 37% last year at around 3 attempts and has improved shooting the 3 every year- with Zion this could be very important. Contract is really nice- huge in todays market. Agreed health is a big issue and you’re not getting massive rebounding/block numbers from him- to me he’s basically a better Larry Nance- which isn’t a bad thing.

He upped his volume these past 3 seasons, he’s shooting 3.5 3 point attempts per game at 35%, that isn’t bad for a center.
His injury history does concern me, if we go after WCJ, we need a good backup.

Robinson is almost definitely not available with Hartenstein going to OKC, it was assumed that he may be available when it was thought that Hartenstein was going to stay at the NYK.

Kessler would be the #1 target for me at center. There is a huge hole now for rebounding as we’ve lost 42% of our rebounds from last season. Three of the top five in rebounding rate. It’s dire and needs addressing

would love to get future unprotected picks back from the Kings.
They historically suck. BI is not a needle moving player for them.
I'd love a few unprotected picks from them starting 3 or 4 years from now.

Use BI for future assets and assets to get Jarrett Allen.
Trade CJ to clear cap space if needed and open up the roster.
Start
Murray
Jones
Murphy
Williamson
Allen
Try to rebuild your bench.

Ballpark on what it would take to get Kessler?
Posted on 7/1/24 at 1:37 pm to BilJ
With the way Ainge operates I would assume 1st round pick plus. Unless it was a strong 1st, I don't think you could just trade a 1st for Kessler, it would have to be something like Hawk + 1st or at least 1st + 2nds if not another 1st.

shite I forget its ainge over there now, yeah he probably won't agree to anything that doesn't result in the media declaring him the huge winner

Huerter is 6'7" and historically a top-shelf 3-point shooter. He backs up Trey:
Starters: DeJounte/Herb/Trey/Zion/New 5
2nds: CJ/Hawkins/Huerter/Barnes/Missi
Deep Bench: Jose/JRE/Reeves/Ryan/Seabron
Obviously you are going to mix and match a bit. You won't play the second five as a unit that much.
Huerter & Barnes with CJ & Hawk let you surround Zion with 4 very good 3-point shooters in 5-out, Nascar package...

Huerter and Barnes are BI's contract. There is no "New 5" in that package unless its Kessler.
I'd rather Tyus back in a S&T than Huerter

ANd what do you plan on doing with Tyus Jones?
You going to give a 6'1" backup PG $15M/yr to take 6'0" Jose's $2M/yr spot as the backup PG?
Sounds ridiculously stupid, no offense.
Huerter is the perfect guy we want comign off the bench and if Hawkins can learn from him and at least equal him, then we have a good problem.
