“I’ve heard complaints in the days after the signing. I heard complaints from the Lakers that they got played.” - Brian windhorst

Not completely pels related but fun to point and laugh. They are always the victims. First we didn’t negotiate in good faith and now Kawhi played them by forcing them to sit out the beginning of free agency.

The Lakers playing the victim card is about as dumb as them complaining about every body leaking when they appear to be the leakiest club in the league.

Leaking shite to the press like this is probably why they didn’t get him.

Lakers played themselves when they put all of their eggs in one basket, even after Kawhi has said before he doesnt want to play with Lebron, he wants to play against him

They could have moved on, but that's their fault.

Couldnt have happened to a better organization

I'm happy Kawhi dragged things out, kept the Lakers from signing someone like Jimmy Butler.

Kawhi's plan was almost foolproof. He was a cold-blooded lone wolf against the Lakers. He did all he could do to help his new team, and keep the West from getting better, and keeping the Lakers from getting a third star.

Then the Lakers signed Boogie!!!

I really enjoy hating the Lakers...

Go Pels!!

But did he really play them, or was he going to go to the Lakers if neither the Clippers nor the Raptors could get Paul George?

I don't think they put all of their eggs in the Kawhi basket, they undoubtedly reached out to other stars that were available. No stars wanted to go play with LeBron and AD, which is pretty funny. You would think they would've realized that they didn't have a great shot at Kawhi after being spurned by every other star, but these are the delusional Lakers we're talking about here.

To be fair, they did an "okay" job of filling out the roster after missing out on stars this offseason.

I guess we will never know for sure. I do know he said he did not want to play with LBJ. I believe that. It was said that he did want to play with Clippers. I believe that. The Clips had the assets, the coaching staff, the better FO by far, and a really good owner.

I truly believe Kawhi would have chosen, if not the Clippers, then some other team aside from Lakers. GS would have been a dynamite destination.

I think he had a list of players that he wanted to play with, it was said that the Clippers put feelers out about Beal and Holiday. There were probably other players too, that we haven't heard about. I think the Lakers were a last ditch option if the Clippers or Raptors didn't land one of the players he wanted to play with, but I also think that he "knew" it was ultimately going to happen.

I think he was clippers all the way and the prospect of staying in TOR was just a ploy to get the Clippers to get off their arse and actually go get another star.

That's also plausible. Both the Lakers and Toronto were leverage to get the Clippers to land another star. That makes sense to me.

There's no doubt that both the Lakers and Raptors were used for leverage, but that doesn't mean that Kawhi played them. We don't know that Kawhi dealt with them "in bad faith," lol.

I thought, from reading Woj after the deal, that Kawhi was prepared to go back to the Raptors if they could deal for George, and that he was prepared to go to the Lakers if neither team could get him. But that may just be BS put out by his agent. It's possible that both the Raptors and Lakers were purely leverage and Kawhi never had any intention of looking elsewhere. But Kawhi strikes me as an honest guy, so maybe I'm just gullible.

this is stupid, and windhorst again shows his arse.
nobody held a gun to the head of the lakers (or the raptors) to wait for kawhi...the lakers could have gone ahead and moved on any time they wanted to. the raptors didnt have any other options so they were all in no matter what.

the clippers had to mortgage their future to get george to go with kawhi, as the lakers had already done for davis. the clippers and the lakers already had decent teams at the start of FA, either could have gone in another direction. whoever is feeding this horseshite to windhorst is clearly speaking personally and not as a representative of a team

The Lakers were his nuclear/fu option. The Clippers knew that and wanted no part of it, hence the haul the Thunder got. If the Lakers didn’t sense that they need new people. If they did it was a chance they were willing to take especially with some quality guys waiting for Kawhi’s decision to drop. Raptors got screwed the most nobody was really waiting to sign with them but it’s what they signed up for (which worked chip) so they can’t be too mad.

Think about this Kawhi would rather play with Paul George, Jrue or Bradley Beal than Lebron and AD.
