re: Jonas would like an extension and to stay, knows there’s key changes coming

His value won't be affected by Joker's play. Joker is a 1 of 1 player. JV can't do what Jokic does and the reason why it works for Jokic is because of the combination of skilsets that allows him to be the engine of their offense.

I don't give a frick what yall say Jonas can be a starting 5 on a title team.
I'm rolling with this.
I'm just a casual fan but I really can't remember the NLOA Hornet/Pelican fan base ever not crapping on the 5 spot, whoever it was.

I assume the only reason to extend him now would be if the Pels were getting a perceived discount on his next contract. No reason to extend now at full value, isn't there some trade value in having an expiring contract guy?

From a fan perspective sure. But guys who want to be here are going to be valued here. I can see him getting a similar extension he received the first time around. Hopefully it'll be team friendly.

He has THE best DRB% in the entire league
Also, he has the best TOTAL rebounding percentage in the league….Higher than Jokic.

hink the better option is to trade down for a vet shooter and draft a developmental guy like Nnaji who has more upside than Lively.
I think lively has much more upside. He's who i want to pick at 14

I'd be shocked if he signed an extension for around $10mil
There's no way.
I would be shocked.

I’d like to frick a couple OT 10s but we can’t have everything we want.
Kidding aside, I wouldn’t mind having him back for the right price. Willie just don’t know how to use him. He has to be in the right rotations to be useful.

I wasn't saying teams would want Val to build there offense around him. They would want a big body center to get some rebounds away from Joker. The Lakers got so desperate they throw Tristan Thompson out there. The Sun's would love to have a center like Val who battles to go up against Joker.

JV is a great starting center, and a great backup guy to run a few offensive plays through when your stars are hurt or playing shitty. He’s capable of winning a handful of games each season by himself.
He’s ok with not playing at the end of games b/c he knows his defense isn’t up to par when playing small ball. You need him to play against Jokic and Embiid, and he can take advantage of smaller 5s on the offensive end.
Not sure what else anyone would like with a center that will likely make $12M/yr and play almost every game b/c he isn’t a bitch. He’s your big 5 with offense, Nance are possibly someone else will be the smaller 5 with better defense. That’s exactly what you want at the 5 position when you don’t have Jokic or Embiid.
At no point have I ever said, “man JV just doesn’t seem to want to play today. His effort is lacking”.
The big man runs the floor harder than almost any other guy in the league that big.

Remember when this loser signed a 5/$58 extension a decade ago
Anyone who does - would love a Val extension at 2/$20

My problem isn’t with JV at this point as much as where our money is and what moves we can make if we need to.
Tying up $35m+ a season in BI, CJ, and Zion alone is pretty bad, especially considering the number of games two of them miss.
And those numbers are going to get worse as we start handing out deals with Herb and others.

CJ must go after this season or next. It just doesn’t work financially. I’m not losing BI, Zion, trey, or herb so that I can pay CJ +30m

Maybe they've decided they're only going to keep one of Herb and Trey. If Trey's trajectory is what we think it is, I don't think it's going to be a tough decision. Dyson can fill Herb's void in the long run and even if he isn't as good as Herb, that'll be more than enough.

If you’re doing that, then you should find a way to attach it the contracts of Kira and Temple. If the plan is to keep Val and Larry, there won’t be much room for roster spots.
You could even send out Naji too to make it more enticing. He’s been a helpful player, but is redundant when you need to get others minutes.

Temple only needs to be traded if we need ballast. His deal is not guaranteed yet, so he can be cut at no cost until then.

Yes, but it’s unlikely we find a veteran player that can help move the needle from a shooting standpoint for under 5-6 mil. I’m assuming we still want to be under the tax.
