also.. from MM so take it for what it's worth, but someone suggested Gayle and Griff go have a sit down heart-to-heart with Zion, and:

quote:

They have tried this over a dozen times. They are not granted access to his royal fatness. Only when the family chooses may they have brief contact - always on their terms, at the place and time of their choosing. There is no magic pill to solving this. Griff and the FO have come at this a dozen different ways. Even tried to bring in some of his ex-coaches and mentors to try to bridge the gap Nothing has worked. His parents are legit insane

This could all be solved with one text, tweet, memo, or presser from Zion.

I don't think the Pels are in a bad spot. We have a solid team and if Zion comes back we are a contender. If he doesn't come back and we trade him, we'll still get a very nice return on him.

I didn't realize that MM was even back on twitter.

The more I hear these types of leaks, the more I get the feeling his parents are so obsessed with being in control that they will never allow him to be a full on teammate anywhere, and they will be the downfall of his career.

I believe Zion has nothing but good intentions in himself, but his mom and step-dad are so spotlight/power hungry they've stripped him of all of his power.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear they have a POA over him ALA Britney Spears and her dad.

There is a reality where the only outside group Zion has really communicated with the past 3-4 months is Nike

Tell the Knicks to get the first overall pick and give us RJ and Zion is theirs

Honestly this is the closest I have been to saying frick it, rehab and trade him

The problem with that is if he's just rehabbing instead of actually getting it repaired with surgery he's diminishing his immediate trade value. If we let him play a bit and it reoccurs he'll need surgery and it'll be another lost year just like Michael Thomas.

Yea, same

One thing I never really get about local media(not really talking about MM here lol) is they seem to all know all of these things, never report them, and when we all found out, they say "We've been trying to tell you all along"

Why do they never come out flatly and just say what they know? Is it just fear of losing contacts with the org?

All JJ did was call out how ridiculous this whole thing has been/gotten on Zion end.

If so many people weren't so invested in making up excuses for what's very obviously going on here, or turning Zion into some infant being controlled by his parents, they wouldn't have to turn this into some conspiracy.

This would lead every talking head show, every day, if he didn't play in New Orleans. Reporters would be camped outside the Nike facility.

Now that the national media if finally catching up, there's really no way NOT to criticize Zion.

Literally said this yesterday. It very much screams that situation. I don’t think Zion has it in him to man the frick up. I think he’s never actually been in control of his life and maybe never will.

What makes me so mad is we went out of our way to please Zion and his family on all fronts.

Draft lottery night the team sat down with Zion and his family and ask them about the report's of him going back to Duke. If they didn't want to be here pull and Eli and Archie, fine you make it public that you don't want to come here and we take Ja. But they didn't want to mess up Zion humble imagine so they lie and once they lie we had no choice but to take him. Every owner in the league would fire there gm if they even thought about taking Ja over Zion.

But this really is the kicker after Zion introduction press conference his dad takes the podium (which I never seen before, big red flag) and talks about how all the report's was false and how New Orleans was one of the team's that they hoped got the number 1 pick. It's the classic case of wanting your cake and eating it to.

Everyone always says, "if Zion was in a bigger market" how he would be treated.

But every time local media is even remotely critical of anything or anyone relating to local teams, the fanbases immediately lose their shite and go nuclear on the reporter. Without fail, it happens every single time.

Spoiler: it's because most of them don't actually know anything. In particular this has been a MM shtick for years.

Piggyback on some recently reported thing, or add fuel to a speculative fire, "report" plausible but largely non-falsifiable speculation reported as insider knowledge, then months later claim you were there breaking news at the time, hoping people forget the timeline of events and conflate your piggybacking for actual insight. If you miss, and MM misses 9 times out of 10, just don't bring it up again and hope the addled brains of sports junkie consumers forget as well.
