There is always a chance but I truly believe no big man is going no move the needle significantly. This is a guard/wing league. I would find a big that I can get by with and put every single resource I have between now and When AD leaves into the perimeter. Every single resource.

Okafor just joined the 6ers again in Boston
Looks like nothing is imminent

BOSTON -- Jahlil Okafor is back with the Sixers -- for now.
Okafor joined the Sixers in Boston on Tuesday, the day before they play the Celtics at TD Garden, per team spokesperson Michael Preston.
Okafor has not played in the last two games amid trade talks. He watched Saturday’s home game from the bench and did not travel with the Sixers to Monday’s game in Charlotte.
“Jahlil Okafor’s situation is transparent,” Brett Brown said Monday. “He’s in the middle of being discussed in trade scenarios. So I felt that it complicates things to play him the last game, and now clearly this is continuing on. That’s the reason he isn’t here.”
Wednesday is the Sixers' final game before the trade deadline on Feb. 23.
The Metro first reported Okafor was spotted at Logan Airport.

Ehh, still a good bit of time before the deadline. All this tells me is that there won't be a deal before All Star break

quote:Seems like a "statement move" by 76ers. They must not like the way the Bulls and/or Pelicans have handled negotiations. They only have the one game left before the All Star break and it is the only game they have before the trade deadline, so why would they bring him back now for that game?

First 76 ers send a signal that NO is interested.
Then others were interested.
Then NO started to be interested in others.
Now Phila is sending signals that offers are not good and Oka remains with them (for one game before ASG).
all will clarify at the deadline.

New update on Okafor situation from Philly SB Nation and the Ringer
I'd copy and paste the best parts but I'm on my phone.
Cliffs: Pels only team interested in Okafor, holding him home this weekend was just a ploy to try to drum up interest from other teams. Philly is reluctant to take on Ajinca's contract.

Hinkie would have been strung up for pulling a bush league move like this and then having Jah rejoin the team.

It’s not even trade scenarios. It’s a trade scenario that involves the Pelicans. Nothing has really changed since nine days ago when The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the Pelicans were “engaged on several fronts to land a center,” including Okafor. Woj reported the Pelicans want to include a large salary (likely Alexis Ajinca), but the Sixers don’t want to take that on, which a source confirmed to me. Those negotiations are stuck in gridlock. The shelving of Okafor was likely meant to flush out the best offers around the league, sources speculate.

•He pump faked an Okafor trade by leaving him in Philadelphia expecting to get a deal done over the weekend, nobody bit, and now the Sixers are forced to welcome him back to the team in what has become a very awkward situation that continues to exacerbate the team’s front court issues.
quote:
This whole situation is asinine, but if the real hold up on a potential deal is taking on Alexis Ajinca’s contract, which is worth just over $10 million total in the next two seasons, then Colangelo is being unreasonably stubborn. That deal is pennies compared to the deals that are going to be thrown around over the next few seasons, and the Sixers have the most cap space in the NBA; they can afford to eat a contract like that if it means still recouping a first-round pick and parting with a player who clearly doesn’t fit in their system.

It should be noted that the Ringer article includes "sources speculate"
Could all be over blown but the scenario makes sense to me

Colangelo has repeatedly said he won’t make a bad trade just to do it, but at this point he may just have to.
How is Ajinca and a protected 2018 pick for Okafor a bad deal? I'm not even sure I want the Pels to do it. The fact that Okafor hasn't lived up to the spot he was drafted is the Sixers problem, not the Pels problem.

It's not. It is the best deal apparently. It seems like BC thinks he will catch flack from Philly fans if he trades the #3 overall pick in 2015 for a lotto protected 2018 pick. Philly fans have some severe coginitive dissonance in that they think Jah is one dimensional & needs to be go because they have too many bigs, but at the same time they think they should get at least a top 10 pick for him.

I've read some 6ers MBs and it is pretty amusing (although no different than our fans).
"He sucks and is one dimensional and doesn't play defense and has a bad knee. We need to trade him. However, we want an unprotected pick, Buddy Hield and Jrue Holiday."

Agreed. The smart way forward seems to be keeping your investments in center constrained, except in rare cases(KAT, Cousins), because you will get a much better return on that same money or talent level at pretty much any other position in today's game.

quote:Heck, if we feel that we truly are the only suitor, we should tell them that they have until a certain date to accept the deal or the protection gets tougher after that while we seek another deal. If we trade for another center, they may really be screwed.
