Love Billy, but he’s a fringe bench player in the NBA. Guys like that who complain about time find themselves out of the league.

Not too surprised by this bc Willy alluded to wanting more minutes in his end of year presser.

He said it in a nice way, but he said it.

Then he went and won MVP overseas this summer.

I said it once and I’ll say it again. Im fairly certain that Willy is going to make the jump to play overseas full time within the next year or two.

He’s a great dude, but he probably wants to play meaningful basketball and be the reason why a good team wins (nba or overseas).

It’s understandable and it should be pretty understandable to anyone that has ever played sports. Sitting the bench isn’t fun. Even if your team is really good. It wears on you eventually.

Especially when you know you can make 5 times more money overseas and be the star of a team.

Willy is probably the most unimportant guy on the team right now, and I say that as someone who absolutely loves him.

His supporters think it's playing time.

quote:

Could it be that the NBA league wants to weaken the Spanish team through the inaction of its best players in the NBA such as the Hernangómez brothers? It really is not explained.

quote:

I don't know who his agent is but the first thing he has to do is call Gayle Benson and tell him to respect the Eurobasket MVP. Either he plays or he passes.

quote:

The Pelicans do not deserve you or give you the value you have. You have played 14 minutes in 5 games, a shame for a player of your category. Request the transfer NOW, value yourself and your successes.

It's twitter so I guess hyperbolic statements are to be expected, but considering that this is the majority responses comments about more playing time may ring true to him hearing it enough, and more so if he already believes it and comments reinforce it.

For anyone curious, on contract for about $2.5M next season. I do think he deserves some minutes somewhere but not over guys here.

You said it, it's Twitter. You can't take that as a legitimate majority opinion.

If he tweeted about soccer before that maybe he was referring to the World Cup? Almost time?

Maybe he’s knows Jax is getting traded soon and it’s “only a matter of time” before he’s back in the rotation :)

It would be ironic if the end-of-bench backup big that they insisted on keeping for locker room purposes, ends up being the cancer in the locker room

It’s times like these I wish I didn’t dick around in Spanish class in high school.

With injuries around the league, would Hernangomez have more value than Hayes?

If we were going to make a trade, I'm thinking teams might target him. We aren't playing him that much and he puts up bigs numbers when Val is out..

Guy's in a tough spot... the only minutes he could play, we have to give to Jaxson hoping he showcases himself enough to trade him

They showed him in a post-game locker room Willie green speech briefly. The camera pans and you can see the side of his face. I dont think from that angle, it was a stretch to say willy was maybe smiling. Crisis averted.

Definitely might be a thing. He liked a Free Willy tweet and this tweet (translated) 8 hours ago.

Another game in which Willy Hernángomez does not play a minute with the New Orleans Pelicans. The current Eurobasket MVP does not deserve this. your time will come

The few times I saw him on the bench he definitely did not look like the Billy I had seen in previous seasons.

Big plays were happening and he just sort of looked checked out. Not miserable or anything, but just barely into it. Which for a guy like Billy that is normally the most spirited person in any room he's in, I think there is something to it too.

I kind of see him being a throw in to whatever trade we might make at the deadline to a team that needs some big man depth.

Willy has tweeted the batteries emoji about 50 times in his Pelicans career. Each time after he was a DNP coaches decision. It didn't effect team chemistry then and it won't now.

Well that's actually kind of interesting. Billy has been a really really good teammate his whole time here, but part of the reason he is on the team is because he's a good teammate, not because we need him minutes. If he is unhappy, trade him, we don't need end of the bench guys being miserable. I'm sure there are a number of teams that would trade for him, he has definitely showed flashes that he can get you some points off the bench. His defense just holds him back.

Unless Val gets hurt, he's just not going to play. Nance has take his spot and bumped out Hayes mostly as well. With how small the league has become, we just aren't going to play 2 bigs together that much.

Nance's defense is more important than I gave him credit and he has solidified his spot. IMO both Hayes and Hernangomez aren't going to see many minutes and could easily be moved. Liddell should slide into that spot next season..

Ready to walk back your argument that extending him was a bad move?

recall what griffin said at the post-playoffs media interviews in June. paraphrasing, "teams called at the deadline and were surprised i told them that a non-rotation player was untouchable" referring to billy. They all know that he wants to play more, every player does.

i think it stung a bit more this past couple games with so many starters out, and honestly i thought willie should have found him minutes, if for no other reason than to show confidence in him. its not surprising that he's frustrated
