This is the only one that matters. Everything else is essentially just bad karma and compounded misery from this.

According to David West, the other decision that broke the morale of that team was we apparently backed out of a deal that would have brought in Tayshaun Prince because ownership didn’t want to expand the payroll further.

Which apparently also pissed off the core when word found it’s way back to them.

Became clear to CP3, West, Chandler, Peja etc. that ownership wasn’t really committed to winning.

And I'm not sure that's really changed, has it?

Gayle has been all kinds of awesome, but is she really going to dip wayyyyy into the tax when Zion is in year 5 and maybe the best player in the L and we're contending? I'm not so sure.

We can only go on what has been said but Griff has noted that he took the job in part because of assurances by Benson that she, essentially, wouldn’t cheap out when the time is right.

Which I think means that once this team proves they have a contender level squad, we are willing to go into the luxury. I do think, until then, we are likely to try and stay under the tax.

Also I would hope that in 5 years the league has ironed out some of the CBA stuff a bit better because as is the league is as broken as it has been in some time between the haves and have nots.

I'm hearing gripes that Beal is not good at the end of games and Rusty is the actual closer at Washington

I've seen nothing that would make me think she wouldn't spend when necessary. She's beefed up scouting, coaching and brought in one of the most renowned training staff. Being a contender makes us marketable, which makes her money. I don't think she'll hesitate if she needs to spend money.

Almost everything is different, not just Shinn vs. Gayle, but the league economics have shifted tremendously in a positive way for teams.

- Gayle is a rich owner, Shinn was a poor owner
- Teams get 50% of revenue now vs. 43% when Shinn was owner
- That revenue pie teams now get a bigger slice of has grown tremendously because of the TV deal. I ran the numbers back in the day and IIRC the new TV money means an additional $30-$50 million per year per team.
- The league increased revenue sharing to help smaller market teams

Can a small market team make money as a tax repeater? Probably not. But they should be able to make enough money in non tax years to cover a run into the tax for to build a legit contender.

Another thing in the Pels favor, their TV deal is up in another year or 2. So at a time when live sports are as valuable as ever and the Pels have the biggest draw in the league they'll be negotiating a new local TV deals (if the NBA doesn't take over local coverage). I'd be disappointed if they didn't get at least another $10 million per year out of that.

in one of your other threads I thought you said it was Rip Hamilton. Just wanted to clarify which Piston. Prince is a nice player but Rip was clearly the better player between the two.

I take your bet. Not like Zion went out of his way saying that he loves playing with Ingram and how they play off of each other games. I swear you dumb fks forget that we have been lacking SF before Ingram ever came here.

I don’t know about usually, but I watched their game against Golden State a few days ago and Beal got the offensive rebound off of a Westbrook miss with 5 seconds left and hit a 3 while getting fouled for a 4 point play to win the game by 1.

lol nah. I meant Zion will be getting paid a ton, so will we pay deep into the tax to get a contending team around him.

At some point the Pelicans had to keep talent instead of let them walk or trade them away.

I think Ingram can be a pivotal piece in a Beal trade. Ingram and a 1st for Beal would be a good deal for both teams. Beal would be great next to Zion and BI would work well with Westbrook and give the Wizards a younger star to build around.

If you spend all your assets on Beal, you still don't have someone to defend the very best Small Forwards of the world

It's easier to find a great shooter than a great 2 way wing
