Said it was a great pick
Said he was a carbon copy of Richard Hamilton .
Tremendous person off the court and tough as nails
Just passing that along

They compared him to Richard Hamilton during the draft.

I saw a clip where he was asked what aspect of his game would surprise people because he didn't get to show it at UConn and he said shooting off the dribble.
None of us really expected Trey to be much more than a 3 point shooter on offense, it sounds like Hawkins might be able to similarly surprise us with more versatility to his game than just the 3 point shooting.

Hawkins high school tape shows some pretty nice looking onball offense. He also averaged over 11 boards a game. We're going to find out what he can do in the summerleague.

I'm at the point where I see we can't take a player's draft profile as gospel. I'm still amazed how no draft "expert" mentioned the freak athlete Trey is. Dude caught more bodies then any player in the league

FWIW: Richard Hamilton was a stone cold mid-ranger. LAST thing we need, in the current NBA, is another "mid-range specialist".
Thankfully, more than 50% of Hawkins' shots will be from 3-pt range...so I'm optimistic on the guy. (Hamilton was around 10% of his shots from 3)

Remember when Shinn was too fricking cheap to trade for Rip when he was available?

Sorry, you're talkin' to a guy who doesn't even know who "Shinn" is...I'm fairly fresh meat (2 years)

He was broke, so broke that the NBA had to buy the team from him, and the NBA ran the team for a while until Benson bought the team.

I remember coveting Hamilton big time.

Will need to be patient with rookies as always. I can imagine he’ll have similar growing pains as did Dyson and Trey their rookie year.

Yup as I said earlier he was 7th on my board according to RMS

Whose minutes does he take?

I’m sure Herb will start seeing some loss in minutes if hi struggles on offense continue.
Our top 10 players in playing time by the end of the season with health I think will be:
Ingram
Zion
CJ
Trey
Herb
Nance
Jonas
Jose
Hawkins (his shooting will be to good for him to not see the court regularly)
Dyson
If Dyson progresses alot this offseason I see him taking some minutes away from Jose at that backup PG spot and moving up that list.

I can see him getting minutes off the bench with Trey, Dyson, Larry and Naji. I love the size him and Dyson brings to our 2nd unit.

The value of Hawkins is in playing him with Zion and having him pop open for passes from Zion like Redick did in Zion's rookie season -- though Zion is a much better passer now than he was then.
That worked extremely well that season. It's easy, now, to downplay the synergy there was, because Redick forgot how to shoot the next season and sucked. But it was great in Zion's rookie year.
And a guy like Hawkins can help wear out a defense. You watch any team that plays the Warriors, and guys simply get tired of chasing Steph around. Movement shooters create havoc and defensive breakdowns, even when they don't actually shoot the ball.

George Shinn owned the Pels in the CP3 days.
He was broke, so broke that the NBA had to buy the team from him, and the NBA ran the team for a while until Benson bought the team.
I think you're undervaluing Shinn's importance here
he was the owner of the Charlotte Hornets who ticked off the fans so badly there that he moved the team to New Orleans
the team may have been run cheaply... gameday experience was perhaps meh at best... but they were typically competitive... whether you're talking Baron Davis, David Wesley, PJ Brown, Big Cat Magloire or CP3, Peja, David West, Tyson Chandler
you could argue the team was in the weaker Eastern Conference during part of that run... but we had some respectable teams while Shinn was here
ETA: kinda surprised the team didn't do anything to commerate 20 seasons since the Hornets moved to New Orleans for the start of the 2002-03 season

Anyone else lee liking this pick more and more as time goes along? The more I learn about him and the more I see how much analysts and NBA YouTubers like this pick the more I get excited. All we need is Herb and DD to become respectable 3pt shooters and we are legitimate contenders. Also health obviously *sigh*
