How do we "complete" this team without a trade?

Let's say for the sake of argument, we do not trade BI or CJ before the season.

We do not trade multiple picks for anyone.

How do we finish out this roster, with our salary constraints and players available?

Find a center we can get on the biannual exception or the MLE. That’s about it.

Problem is that with Paul Reed getting picked up off waivers by Detroit, our non-trade options for a starting center have declined significantly.

It's really starting to look like Karlo and Yves are going to be in the rotation.

Our rim protection and rebounding might be absolute shite to start the year.

As it stands, I don't think you can.

You just have to outscore people.

Our perimeter D might be pretty decent with Herb, Murray, Jose. I would hope maybe we could limit 3s, but with almost 0 rim protection, we'll give up a ton of layups. Maybe we'll actually win the 3s vs 2s battle for once.

However, this goes against Willie's tendencies so I have no idea.

What I do know is that I will lose my shite if Willie plays Theis and Missi for like 40 minutes a game just to have an ineffective big on the court while our talent rots on the bench.

The best FA center options to have a 15 mpg time eater imo would be one of:
Demarcus Cousins
Tristan Thompson
Bol Bol

However, we know Willie loves playing small ball, and there’s a few PF/C hybrids that I think would fit well with the main one being Precious Achiuwa. He’s actually a pretty decent rebounder despite his size and can play a switchable defense.

But yeah, outside of those and Karlo, I don’t see any options other than a trade.

It would be very stupid to go into the season with no starting center, we saw this show with Greg Stiemsma years ago.

If we aren't trading BI or CJ before the season, the most feasible thing to do would be to just trade a couple firsts for Kessler.

Other options include trading for centers that could fit into the MLE like Nick Richards or Jalen Duren.

I think we're the team that got turned down already by offering two firsts.

Probably, but I definitely wouldn't throw more than that in there.

Plenty of championship teams have won without a force at center. Just need someone who can defend/rebound/finish around rim.

With this current roster, I think that is completely feasible. We’ll definitely grab another PF/C with good size at some point in FA, but it seems the writing is on the wall that BI is staying next year and thus, I personally don’t want us trading any of the other young pieces who are the only ones with true return value.

I'd love to think he'd come back here with mgmt being different. The fans loved him for sure.

As far as bol bol and Tristan, nah frick that, I'd rather develop yves

Unless Yves has a Derrick Lively type rookie season, Theis and Missi are not a good enough center rotation to start next season with.

We simply cannot go into next season with just those two

I think it’s the Knicks. They have a need for a center and apparently have been looking into a bunch of them, but they have serious salary constraints.

The only two picks they have available to trade are heavily protected and both will most likely turn into 2nds.

Can we stop pretending Jose is a plus perimeter defender? Dude gets exposed by any guard with legit size/skill.

I obviously acknowledge him being able to steal the ball(which does create value), but his perimeter defense is trash quite frankly.

And he tends to embarrass any that doesn’t.

False. He is a good defender with some limitations against significantly bigger players.

But his defensive rating is always good and he's a huge asset, especially in the regular season.

If adding a minimum center were the answer, it should have been done already.

I'm curious about Duren in Detroit and wonder if that's Griff's fall back. Adding Harris and Reed don't exactly make him expendable, but he's also nothing special, and guys that aren't special don't tend to survive regime changes. I could see Trajan preferring a 1st to having Duren on the team with him being due a 2nd contract in the next few years.

From the Pels perspective, Duren fills a big hole in that he's an excellent rebounder, and he also fits in the Kira trade exception.
