Only 6 million of Young's contract is guaranteed, so maybe you could send him elsewhere and get another team/player involved here. Just spitballin

Luxury tax should not be much concern this season

Well if we bring in a player via S&T, we are hardcapped at 6 mill above the tax line anyway.

We won't go into the tax this offseason so I am sort of using the Tax as a "hard cap.

Any capologists want to weigh in on what we would look like if we:

Sent Ball to Chicago and got back White/Young as part of larger deal

Did S&T with Nets getting Dinwiddie at say 20ish a year, giving Nets a TPE or 2nd.

Would we be able to take on any other players in S&Ts? MLE? BAE?

How far from Tax Line and hard cap?
We'd be at 115 after those moves. Which leaves us at 17 mil below the tax. Means that the full MLE would be available, as well as the BAE. Or, could keep Hart and still probably have around 7ish mil under the tax.

ETA: if we added Iwundu to the Memphis deal, then we could take in another 12ish mil on top of the 20ish that we'd give to Dinwiddie. Could possibly be enough for someone like McDermott, maybe? I don't know what his expected number is, but that's above the MLE, so that would exclude a number of potential suitors.

As you should. And it’s certainly possible that we could literally add and keep players up to the luxury tax. I just think we won’t quite go that high with our future tax concerns coming. Dinwiddie and separate Lonzo sign and trade very workable. And then small moves around the edges to finish the roster.

And not his career 37% shooting percentage? Lol

Certainly not good, but he's decidedly more efficient than Lonzo, 3 percentage points higher in career TS%

What is Devonte Graham good at??? He has never shot above 38% from THE FIELD in an NBA season.

Well he's a good 3 point shooter. 37% from 3 and takes most of his shots from 3 (71% of his shots in 2021).

And he’s one of the worst defenders in basketball.

He is below average for sure, but not nearly the worst.

And sucks at passing.

Well that's just plain wrong. 8th in the league in assists in 2020. 5.4 apg for his career. Higher assist rate than Lonzo.

Sign me up for a Graham trade to New Orleans. He’s still young enough to hold value around the league in the coming years. He got some dog in him, I like his pull up game and he’s willing to attack the rim.

I would feel much better about moving on from Lonzo with the addition of Graham. I could grow to like Dinwiddie but at the moment I much prefer Devonte.

If Ball is going, we have to get something back in a S/T and hopefully, it is a player that is a better fit for our PG needs.

I would think they would fill 2 different roles. I would expect Dinwiddie would be a lead guard type while Graham would be a shooter/bench scorer type.

I see where you’re coming from. Graham would fit the “gunner” label but I wouldn’t play him short and say he’s not fit to lead an offense. To me, his acquisition is more about maintaining the rosters’ value. I could easily see him being shipped out if later we decide to chase another star. I don’t think Dinwiddie holds that same future value. All in all I’m ready to see the chips fall!

I'm ok with Graham coming in as a 6th man type, but absolutely not as a starter.

I am not totally sure. Lonzo seems like the domino piece that will trigger everything else.

Will they be aggressive signing guys ahead of that? I am not sure. If they are set on letting Lonzo go, you could see them pursue someone like Powell or Dinwiddie or perhaps a PG that could fill in around the times "point Zion" isn't on the court, whether that be injury or just rest during a game.

The Hornets are 55-81 the last two years with Graham as one of their leading shot takers.

Will turn 27 during the next basketball season.

He's an out of control bad shot taker on a bad team, who is way past the NBA development age. That does not usually translate well at all.

pull up numbers are pedestrian and he is absolutely terrible at the rim. Like way worse than Lonzo

Gotta agree with Lester on this one

Please god no. We don’t need that chunker, at all. Rather just keep Lonzo

we can help:

Ball to Charlotte
Graham to OKC
Walker + picks to Pelicans

He's a declining player, but 2 years is probably his lifespan anyway. He's good enough to be a lead guard, even if he cannot attack the rim like he used to his outside shooting is average enough to warrant a threat.
