You’re clueless about the fit. He’s the perfect fit for the type of offense we’re running, and he can definitely play along side Zion no problem

Didn't Hayes set some screens tonight?

he can’t shoot
Shot 74% from the stripe in college and FT shooting percentage is well known as the greatest indicator of future shooting potential. Just because you haven't seen him shoot yet doesn't mean he can't someday develop a respectable jump shot.

All it takes is a shot that defenders have to worry about. As long as they close out on him it will free up space. That is well within Hayes' potential.

Oh yes he did. And with more muscle he'll be even better.

I suggested trading back with the Hawks for Hayes the morning before the draft and got a ton of push back

I remember too. I also wanted to draft Hayes at #8, but I didn't think he'd be this good already. He freaking scored 28 in just 21 minutes, and his season high at Texas was only 17.

Now, he doesn't yet have the body mass to defend the bigger centers in the league. Cousins, Marc Gasol, Gobert … those guys would just push him around right now. But that will come. He'll get started now and even gain some more weight before the season comes around.

Just slink away and take an L my dude

Take the L on what. He took one jumper, was wide open, and missed badly. Missed almost half his ft’s. To be clear, the only reason I’m mentioning any of that is because you wanted to be an a-hole like this proved anything I said wrong, which it didn’t.

By the way, the guys around him were draining 3’s, which is exactly the kind of situation I said makes the most sense for a guy like him. He wasn’t out there with 4 guys who are not really threats from 3 like Jrue, Lonzo, Ingram, and Zion.

Really? He just looked great on nothing but dunks surrounded by a bunch of shooters. That’s exactly what I said was his best fit and why I said Atlanta was a perfect spot for him.

Y’all are starting this dumb fricking argument again after a summer league game where nothing I said was proven wrong. People are already saying this kid will be better than AD. Getting a fricking grip people.

Teams follow Jrue out to the 3 point line anyway because he’s so good at attacking from the perimeter. I haven’t watched enough of Ingram to know if this is true for him, but with his scoring ability I suspect the same can be true for him too. Remember how AD was often doubled when he didn’t even have the ball? That’s going to be Zion.

There’s your space.

I don’t know where this myth started that you have to shoot 3s well to create space, but that’s not the only way to do it.

Oh my God, shut the frick up already. LOL.

Youre just a moron. How many folks have to mention FT percentage before you move on and accept that its a real thing used by the NBA to evaluate shooting ability. fricking jackass!

And NAW, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s cuz was slammed too! As if he didnt shine at VTech, they even beat Duke last season.

Eh, I didn't see any of this on NAW here. The night he was drafted, I mostly saw people asking who he was and what's his story/game. I don't remember many people knocking that pick at all.

He was clearly amped early and finished 6 of his last 8 on FTs. He hit a circus jumper, he clearly needs some work and I don't think anyone disputes that.

He's not going to be out there in lineups with all of those 4. He's gonna get minutes off the bench and develop.

And the AD stuff was mostly jokes

One summer league game, 9 dunks, 0 made jump shots and 57% from the free throw line and he's the next Dirk...I don't think anyone that disagreed with the pick denied his ability to dunk and protect the rim or said anything about him not being very athletic. Just said he hasn't proven he can shoot

Yeah, I think Hayes showed he belongs and raised his likely floor, which is not something you typically do as a rookie one game into summer league, but he did it for me. And he did silence my worst concerns.

That said he has a long way to go. Rebounding, court IQ, offensive skillsets, jump shot, all need work. To the point, I wonder if that 74% FT% is going to be misleading like Lonzo's was coming into the league.

I think the better argument in defense of the move back from 4 is NAW. He just looks really good from a skillset perspective. Way better than I gave him credit for, one summer league game or not.

He hit 6 of his last 7(or 8) FTs he took last night

It a bit of work but it's certainly serviceable enough

Agreed on NAW

Let's be honest, the shot-form is not pretty.

The arm is cocked, the ball is brought up and held over the eye, the release lacks touch in the way Zion's shot does, the follow-through is not lined up or stable, which all promotes erraticness in his release and trajectory.

He, Lonzo, Zion, and to a lesser extent Ingram are all going to need to take full advantage of our shooting coaches and JJ hanging around.

Favors can help Hayes a bit with that jumper

He himself really has developed one in recent years
