Take with a grain of salt, it's from an unknown guy and I've never seen a 3 year deal for a HC unless it has an option

Green and New Orleans Pelicans have agreed in principle to a 3-year deal to be named the Pels’ next head coach.

I saw it about 20 minutes ago and didn't post it. Hes a blue check but he doesn't appear to be a sports guy and has like 4,000 followers.

interesting since we just fired stan 1 yr into his 4 yr deal. 3 would line up with original contract of stan's. wonder if this contract lines up with expiration of griffin's deal.

I’ll spell it out next time that I don’t want the last two guys Griffin had to fire

One, btw, that he hired. Another who he kept too long and was afraid to fire.

Pels board is fully riding with this clown on this shite hire though. I can’t believe there is no push back here

I'm on the record thinking that Griffin is a used car salesman.

That's why you think that this is a shite hire. Now it makes sense.

That's really a fact. Pete Carmichael is still looking for his HC gig. Some of those type guys ain't got it.
Vanterpool has interviewed for like 5-10 head coaching jobs and still hasn't landed one. There's gotta be something going on there.

Other than nothing about Green’s resume or personality being all that impressive, sure. The fact Griffin hired him inspires zero confidence.

Based on that last sentence, wouldn't you be skeptical of any hire we make?

Is Fred Vinson's son, Corey Vinson, on the phoenix coaching staff? (asst video coordinator)

There's just a lot of phoenix/nola connections going on. Monty, the athletic trainer dude, CP3, E'twaun, Vinson son, stuffs like that's.

Reports from the beginning have been that this is not the clown's decision alone. So the board isn't "riding with Griff" on this one and the board has largely been skeptical of Griff since Jrue failed to become MVP.

Also, you don't know Green is a bad hire any more than other people know he's good. We just don't know enough. You're trying to use other measures like how long they've been paying their dues and how long they've been on the radar of teams as a legit HC candidate. I understand why you want to grab for those metrics, but do they really actually tell us anything about how good of a coach they will be? If they did then the most dues paying assistants would be the ones that always got hired.

I said with Gentry many times you can't just fire him without have a legit upgrade in mind. Because as bad as Gentry was, the Pels had put together a pretty strong staff. I felt Gentry with a strong staff was a better option than another non difference making coach with a staff that wasn't as strong.

I think that's where we find ourselves again. A non difference making coach so we need a strong staff. Hopefully Willie can get the team to finally play hard and once they do you'll need some assistants to help focus that.

Guys like Vanterpool, Ham & Mosley have all been assistants since like 07-08. All young, in their 40’s. Well liked by players
Reportedly Green is well liked by the players. Why haven't Ham and Vanterpool gotten jobs elsewhere? Ever thought that they were not nearly as great prospects as you think they are, at least to NBA executives who make the hires?

He spent 3 years in Golden State they made the finals 3 times and won twice. During that time Kerr called him "A head coach in waiting."

He's spend two years in Phoenix, in his first year they went from 19 wins to 34 and went undefeated in the bubble. They are now in the NBA finals. Green is credited with constructing the Suns defensive scheme.

I'd much rather a promising young assistant than a retread. I think most would agree, hence the lack of push back

You could play this game with literally any coach. Either they have no experience, or they've been an assistant forever and so why has no one hired them, or they're a previous head coach so why are we hiring a retread who someone else threw out. Even a guy like Carlisle. You could pick him apart and say he hasn't advanced out of the first round in over a decade and just left Dallas because he apparently couldn't get along with Luka.

The truth is none of us have any idea how Willie will be as a head coach. However, there's no glaring red flags so I think the majority of us are going to go in with an open mind and cautious optimism. Especially compared to the last two hires when there was obvious issues to point to from day 1 based on previous coaching stops for SVG and Gentry.

Feel like a Woj bomb deserves its own thread.

Basically confirms the hire.
