Griff already mentioned he’s starting the year in gleague. So we’re basically starting the year with CJ as our lone bonafide 3 pt shooter.

Edit: Apologies for incorrect statement but Griffin mentioned Hawkins would be sent to gleague during schedule gaps so hopefully he’s available in the early games Trey is out.

when was that said?

No one who is healthy that was drafted in the top 16 starts the year in the G-League. No one.
If they did, that's a very bad look.

I highly doubt Hawkins plays in the G-League at all this year, and if he does, it might be for a game or two when it's convenient and he's already had some playing time and they want him to get some run since he's not getting playing time with the Pels mid-late year b/c they want him to work on something specific, like Trey did for a very very brief moment.

and OP, there's no figuring this out.
We aren't trading for Buddy making that much money. It's not in the realm of reality to make that happen, nor would it make our team better if we found a way to accomplish it while still staying under the tax.

I apologize to be clear Griffin said he would be sent during schedule gaps to gleague. So he might play some games early on but will play in gleague during the season.

Not only do you have to trade for him, you have to give him a new contract which must be a rich asking price some he can't come to terms with Indiana. He'll also cut into our young player's playing time.

I like his skillset and ability but I don't like the idea of a guy who is going to demand big minutes. Yea we need a sharpshooter but not one that will require more than 15-20mpg at most. We already saw how Josh Richardson created a logjam for Murphy. I don't want to give Green that kind of option.

To be fair Buddy Hield is a lot more valuable than a guy like Josh Richardson especially to our team that lacks shooting. I also think Buddy might be better and probably is better than some of the young guys on our roster so im ok with him taking their minutes. The issue really is his price and us paying the luxury tax.

Shooting doesn’t take long to develop so he will play early
whose minutes is he taking. And griff already said Hawkins is gonna spend a good amount of time in Birmingham to start the year at least because he’s not going to get minutes to develop

He didn't say he'd start the year missing NBA games to be in G League. He said he'll be in G League during schedule gaps to get extra run.

This is an absolute nonsense statement. Buddy isn't MJ, pal.

That's a good comparison. Buddy to MJ is about the same as some rookie to buddy.

And I'm not your pal, friend.

Buddy is a great guy. My old neighbor. Would love to have him back.

Remember Buddy was pretty old coming into the league. He's already 30.

He's going to play well into his 30s probably. He's been pretty healthy his entire career. Probably because hes a shooter who doesn't play defense. Longevity is on his side.

he’s not gonna get minutes in the league and then go to Birmingham. He’s riding the bench if he’s traveling to bham in between nba games

Buddy is poo as a defender, but the rest are average and above (Jones borderline elite as a def stopper/6 man)

If you watched Hawkins in the SL then you would know that he needs to be in the G league. He needs to build his strength and learn how to play defense.

I would like to have Buddy off the bench as a legit volume 3 guy at least until Hawkins develops.

How to you get him? How do you match salaries?

Spurs just bought out Reggie Bullock, would be a huge get if we could get him.

I doubt he'd want to come here willingly. Even though we could use him in the interim, he knows he'd get DNPs once Murphy returns.

Reggie would come in and immediately be at worst our 7th-8th guy. He’s an elite level shooter and defensive guy.

It would probably cut into minutes for Dyson, but I think we could make enough minutes to develop him along with keeping Bullock happy, and gives us even more depth in the instance of injury.
