Fischer: Pels 8th pick a likely trade target, either back or for a vet.

Fischer has been good the past year with inside info, but this one reads more like informed speculation than insider.

And akin to the Kings, there’s a likelihood that both Portland’s and New Orleans’ front offices could move those selections for an established veteran or to trade down while adding another rotation piece along the way.

This draft is considered deep in talent between Nos. 12 and 40. Multiple agents and league executives at the combine told B/R they expect varying rankings from each team, where players that one front office deemed in the lottery may actually be available in the 20s, and vice versa.

I'd rather just draft at 8.

I know I'm a broken record, but I really believe they will do everything in their power to not draft at 8.

They are 100% going to attempt some kind of deal.

trade down and Sochan, Duren, or Jovic are all good candidates to me.

Seems completely speculative although I know I've seen other smoke about this as well. Trading back does make a lot of sense for the Pels.

If Mathurin is gone or the Pels don't want him for some reason, there's a glut of wings with 3&D potential that seem fairly interchangeable. I think the Pels should stay put and get the guy they really want rather than acceptable leftovers, but value-wise it doesn't seem like it would be terrible to fall back to 12 for enough value from OKC.

If our top target is not available at 8, I have no problem trading down 3-4 spots in order to either gain a future 1st or unload Graham (or both).

If we trade back to the late 1st, then I wouldn’t mind taking someone like Jalen Williams. Big guard/wing with in insane wing span that shoots well and basically ran point for santa clara

There’s also an almost 1 million dollar difference per year salary wise between 8 and 12. That could be important to a team like NOLA where future salary is going to be very important. If you don’t see a big difference between 8 and 14th guys, and you can also maybe dump salary and pick up future assets, it is certainly in play.

the fact that they traded down from 4 in 2019, reports were that they were trying to trade down from 13 in 2020, and then successfully traded down from 10 in 2021, makes it seem like a forgone conclusion that they will try to move down from 8.

If they were to get a proven veteran player, like Huerter, then i'm all for it. I don't want anyone from OKC or Houston, and i don't want to trade 8 for 13/15 from Charlotte. Chicago and Minny aren't giving up anyone worth while.
Maybe the Knicks would like to move from 11 to 8, and i'd give them Graham for Alec Burks in that scenario.

Did I miss this? I did see OKC listed as one of a few teams to monitor for a potential trade up given they have 2 draft choices from 12-30, but did not see them listed specifically as a target.

Once you get into picks 6-15, there is no consensus.

Depending on what you can get in the deal, it might be worth trading back 5-7 spots where you could still land a really good player.

NBA.com has a list of all the major mock drafts. After the top 6 or so picks, it varies a lot.

Best case scenario if we don’t pick at 8 IMHO?

Trade back with Charlotte for 13 and 15 then flip one of those picks to either upgrade the roster or dump Graham.

Yes, we would be trading for our own pick back we traded for Graham and then probably using it to dump him, but I think clearing the cap space would be worth it given how much we are about to be paying to Zion and others.

i think there's a decent consensus of top 7 but just in different orders from picks 4-7

I feel like there's a clear top 6 (or will be anyway) then there's another 8-9 guys in a single group. With three of those guys I personally don't have much interest in.

If I was making my own tiers I would say that 8-9 turns into like 4, possibly 5. So I wouldn't move down past 11, personally.

Dead on fact. It makes a lot of sense.

I'm hoping Agbaji is waiting when we get our pick..

You could have guys like Daniels, Dieng, Sochan available.

I'd be interested in those guys at 8, let alone 12.

The farthest I'd want to move back would be 10 or 11.

Really want to walk away from the draft with one of:

Jeremy Sochan
Bennedict Mathurin
AJ Griffin
Johnny Davis

And, I don't think that's a guarantee if you move all the way down to 12. IMO, it's likely that those 4 plus Duren go 7-11. I guess Daniels could squeak in the top 11 and push one of those 4 to 12, but I wouldn't feel confident in that.

ETA: I guess if Duren went 7, and the Pels had assurances from OKC that they were taking Daniels at 8, they could still land one of those 4 at 12, but who knows what the Pels big board actually looks like anyway.
