Hawks were on fire for Herb. In retrospect you probably could have traded Herb for Okongwu and solved your center problem that way, with Dyson taking over Herb's role as a defensive wing stopper.

CJ/Dyson/Trey/Zion/Okongwu would have been a strong starting five...

It's possible including Herb in deal with Hawks could have let you leverage a trade of Brandon to them with Herb for a return of Dejounte & Okongwu. We'll never know for sure...

Seems to be a reoccurring theme amongst New Orleans franchises.

Well the Pellies are in this weird position where we have lots of talent but bad coaching and injuries destroy us.

I didn't love or hate the trade at the time.

What I liked -

Finally got a real PG and a guy who could theoretically help in the clutch.

What I didn't like -

Giving up an up and comer like Dyson.
Murray's not a good shooter.

That's what I've said all season. I'd love to still have him on the team but he 100% would not be the most improved players on the Pels. He's be getting 22mpg and some DNP Coaches Decision nights. Unless we would have traded Herb. He just wasn't going to get the minutes needed with Herb on the team and with Willie as the coach.

So with all the injuries we’ve had this year and Herb being out most of the year I disagree. He would have got starter minutes if he stayed healthy.

You and I were the only two educated ball knowers who knew Dyson would become elite. He is a different type of elite defender than Herb, which is why they would have fit together immaculately. I really can’t be that mad at us swinging for Dejounte, I just wish we had tried to do so while holding onto Dyson. We let Naji and BI go for pennies, maybe if Griff had been more proactive Dyson would still be a Pel.

BI + Dyson = fits

Zion + Dyson = fits not

Dyson doesn't fit half the time and the other half he does.

Singular problem, it's not Dyson.

Dyson's Best month last year was in April.

Got a few threads I’ve been waiting to bump once he takes Herbs spot on the 1st team all defensive team.

Still remember the poster that said he’ll be out the league and playing back Australia soon enough lol.

I always thought he'd end up as more of a Thybulle than anything. I was wrong.

I loved the trade when we made it.

Of course with all the injuries he would have played more minutes but at the time of the trade you're not factoring that in. Though with the Pels, it probably should be the #1 thing you factor in.

The thing is, as a fricking rookie, not even 10 games into his career he was trusted to guard a center (and did it successfully) to end the game.

Why the frick did we have such an infatuation with Naji, alvarado, etc over him defensively? It was ridiculous then and even moresl now.

I wasn’t factoring that in with DD, but you are right with this franchise. But I still think he was going to make a jump this year regardless of what team he was on.

Now when I said we should have traded for Lauri M from the Bulls years ago, I was 100% factoring Zions health at the time and said it in threads. With his body type and good in New Orleans, he would have been a great insurance policy.

We went from having Dyson, Naji and Naw as a bench to fricking scrubs.

Don’t forget Josh Hart. The amount that Griff has fricked up this roster and its litany of resources is impressive.

Again.. that Suns playoff series did so much damage to the team going forward.

Propped up BI as a star.. Elevated Herb to mythical, untradeable creature.. and somehow convinced everyone that Alvardo was some kind of cornerstone of the team

For sure, almost like they were trying to win.

I would play Dyson with herb right now. There's enough offense with murphy/Williamson/McCollum to be good enough. The answer remains you need a center who could score in more ways than a lob but works.
