End of March or into April? That still seems odd considering that the commissioner and de facto owner said March 1 (with a possible delay based on his last interview Saturday to March 3rd or so).

It does get annoying to keep having everything pushed back though. Today was supposed to be the day but maybe that means we have a bidding war going on.

Don't know about a bidding war, but there are always details that sometimes need a little extra time with a complex deal involving mulitple parties. No reason to think there is any problem at all. I want this thing settled as much as anyone, but I want it done right.

I think all this means is the lease deal(s) isn't finalized. Just like the Saints can't make a final offer to Brees until they do things like restructure Will Smith and find out cap calculations from the league, without the lease being done final bids can't be submitted. Stern said at All Star weekend he was surprised at how everything shut down because of Mardi Gras. I would assume there was no shut down with the communication between Stern, Raj and Chouest, so something else being shut down must have gotten his attention and the people who were supposed to be working on the lease details hitting the parades instead fits the facts as well as anything.

“We’re a little bit behind because we haven’t concluded our deal with the state yet,” Stern said Saturday, “but I think it’s moving closer day by day. It’s progressing well, but it’s not finished. We expect to have it finished, I’m told, in the next week or 10 days, and that’s the period of time that we would like to hopefully have this deal for the sale of the club come into much sharper focus.” Stern had said late last year the team would be out of league ownership by mid-2012. It has been Sperling’s spoken desire to announce a new owner and lease agreement at the same time. “We’re continuing to make progress,” Sperling said Wednesday night. “We’re moving ahead with potential purchasers, a couple groups, and also on the state front. We’re making good progress and are still very optimistic that we’ll have an announcement prior to June 1. We’re moving ahead and trying to get it done as quickly as we possibly can. I think everybody’s got that same objective, and I’m totally optimistic that we’re going to have an announcement.”

Per Sperling in the T-P this morning, sounds like it could drag on to as late as June 1. This organization is one big joke.

Stern has said consistently that nothing would be announced until after March 15 when the Legislature convenes. I don't know where people came up with March 1, but it's no big deal either way, chicken little.

State Legislature Adjourns June 4, hence "no later than June 1." As much as the NBA wishes it was the most important thing on the legislative agenda, it is not, and it should not be.
I know I'm totally ruining the moan fest here, but try to calm down and apply some logic.

Follow me:
First - Sign Lease Agreement
Second - Sign purchase agreement, which is contigent upon lease agreement
Now, you have to have the Legislature in session (March 12- June 4) to sign a lease agreement. It could be on March 13. It could be on June 1. David Stern and "this organization" have no control over legislative dockets.

No, just a more memorable Chicken Little. You're filling his shoes nicely.

I didn't see his presser at the All Star Game, but I do know that the general consensus has been that the formal deal would be announced after the lease agreement is confirmed. I've assumed that it would be after the legislature convened in mid-March. Anything signed before that date would be a "contingent" upon the lease. No big deal.
However . . . get ready . . . and I'm not vouching for this one way or the other . . . but there are rumblings among some that a "local" ownership group is still making noises and making moves. It is not completely out of the picture.
I have no idea as to the details behind the curtain, but all of this last minute stuff actually makes me even more confident that the team will be guaranteed to remain here for quite awhile.

In the NBA TV interview, Stern mentioned the March 1st date.
During the All-Star weekend, he pushed that back to 7-10 days.

I don't know if it's going to be as quick as some of you want. The governor's agenda this session is basically to assrape state employees in epic fashion. It could get contentious and drag out all proceedings.
