According to league sources, the Pelicans reached out to the Celtics this week to discuss the framework of a possible Davis deal, ostensibly to ensure that if they pass up on other offers before Thursday’s deadline, it would be for good reason.
Sources said the Pelicans have sought guarantees from the Celtics surrounding specific packages, but the Celtics have been reluctant to make absolute promises, simply because so much can transpire in five months, such as injuries. Nevertheless, sources said, the Celtics have made it clear that they will be ready and willing to offer an explosive package when the time arrives, and that no specific player will be off limits in negotiations.

Mentioned this is another thread, but the last part is all the Pels really need to hear. It's understandable they don't want to name specific players. If that leaks that Tatum or Smart or Brown was "promised" in a deal, it could wreck the locker room in the middle of a playoff run.

Really all that could be said other than Ainge saying “You know I’ve been saving for this for years, right?”

Yeah of course! But this is pretty exciting to see it from the Boston side as well.

We will get completely assfricked by Ainge

Can’t trade frick a team who isn’t willing to take a deal.

If so they'll go to the Knicks and Clippers

The more combustible the Lakers' season, the better this is for Danny Ainge's confidence in his ability to retain AD.

I have an explosive package in my pants from this news.

I believe it was reported he had a meeting with Tatum and Brown about the nature of the business.

I mean yeah. Anyone acting like we don't hold every card during this is funny. If you want AD, you're paying with good players and good picks.

We don't hold every card. The Clippers appearing to enter the fray helps, but Woj said on TV a bit ago that while they're not precluding going after AD, their focus is still Kawhi. The Knicks have a 60% chance of getting the 4th or lower pick. So if the Clippers end up not being in and the Knicks don't get a top pick what pressure is there on Boston to come with a strong offer?

Which is why if the Lakers had assets worth a damn this probably gets done.
If they had taken Fox over Ball and the offer was Fox, Ingram, Kuzma, and multiple firsts, I doubt the Pels let this drag out till July.

Still means nothing. When you're trading for the best player in a potential deal, of course it means everyone is available.
