what the hell did the driveman just read??? BACK to rivers

you guys can argue about lottery pick, WHO we should have taken and all of that but it don't change the fact that he's got an below AVERAGE nba body, an AVERAGE shot, AVERAGE athleticism, plays AVERAGE defense and CAN'T finish at the rim. the driveman has been watching Rivers since the summer league and the book on him hasn't changed in nearly 6 months. All of the above stated and doesn't make his teammates better. Think DELL whiffed on this one. if he didnt have his last name he wouldn't have whiffed TOP 20

He also has a very high work ethic

I'm not going to make a decision on him now. We all knew he would struggle this season and that he'd learn from it, we just didn't think he'd struggle this much. But, he'll still learn from it. Once we get AD and EG back and there are better offensive players around him I think he'll improve. If he still looks bad, then maybe its time to be concerned. But as others have said we didn't expect him to make an impact right away like Davis did and will once he is back. He is a project, and if he can't figure it out by year 3, then we can get rid of him

Yea yea, he's 19, give him time, etc. etc.

But with the young guys that turn into studs, you see flashes of them being great early.

Who says he's going to be great? The problem with Austin Rivers is people's expectations. If he becomes the next Tony Parker that'd be outstanding, but IMO the expectation for Rivers should be a capable 6th man combo guard like Jarrett Jack.

This.

The team, even healthy, was always a long shot for the playoffs. Lots of people are disappointed it has been a slow start and Rivers is an easy scapegoat.

We should be watching for him to improve obvious weaknesses: decision making with ball, finishing at rim, spot up shooting, and defense. IMO he can be an asset if he gets better in those areas. I don't know if he can ever be the dynamic scorer, but with a healthy EG, Davis, and Anderson he doesn't have to be that guy.

The D-league was NOT made for rookies to go so they could stop being overmatched, it was made for rookies that have no minutes and need to get some games in.

If you're a rookie that gets sent down and there's minutes, it's not a good thing and it's the last thing you should want for Rivers if you do want him to succeed. If you've already given up on him, fine. Just say so. But the D-League won't help him at all.

The D-League is evolving a lot, actually, and you are seeing more rookies pick up experience down there, which is how it should have been used all along. Let them gain confidence against other pros before throwing them to the wolves (or trading them to the Wolves).

I'm really not getting the hate by some of you on here. None of the rookies picked after Rivers have been lighting the world on fire, so to say Dell whiffed on Rivers is pretty laughable this early into his rookie year.

This is true but not for the reason you think it is. Pick 10 is often not very different than pick 20. You no longer have a sure fire starter on your hands and whether the pick lives up to his potential or not will be determined largely by dedication and coachability. Rivers being Doc's son made his work ethic and coachability less questionable reducing the risk of picking him meaning he would go near the top of the "maybe a starter" players.

Being Doc's son didn't get Austin special consideration as much as it gave GM's more certainty than they normally have about a one and done player.

Let;s not forget some of the rookies picked in front of him, like Bradley Beal, have hardly lived up to their billing, and Beal its gets starting minutes

Exactly!

I don't understand the rush to negativity...Lets wait until our team is whole before we start passing such harsh judgments

10th picks over the last 12 years haven't exactly lit it up their rookie year besides Caron Butler and Brandon Jennings...and Jennings had some Euro seasoning first

I feel like Louisiana fans are greatly underrated as shitheads. As a fan of the Saints, Hornets, and Tigers, I feel like Eagles and Cubs fans are less negative.

Once Rivers figures out how to finish around the rim, he'll be fine.

Same thing was the case at Duke. Early in the year, blew by defenders, didn't have a finishing move. Figured it out later in the year, boom, top 10 pick.

Jester makes a valid point. I thought we would never be as negative of a fanbase, but there's no way the Eagles or Cubs fans complain any more than our fans, especially on the Rant and Saints Talk. It'll be worse here if the Hornets gain popularity.
