It isn't even an argument. It is a lay person making a subjective comment about his thoughts on what a supreme athlete should or shouldn't weigh to be able to not, possibly, have a hamstring injury. It is asinine.

Without Zion, the Pelicans are average. With Zion at 250, 280 or 300 pounds the Pelicans are in a conversation of at least winning a round of the playoffs or better. With Zion we have our crosshair on everyone in the West. And even the East will be watching and marveling at what is the force that is Zion, and praying that they will not have to face the Pelicans.

But only time will tell.

It's my fault for not clarifying that fat also means too heavy. Even if her were 5% body fat at 265, he would still be simply too heavy to play basketball.

He HAS to be 250 and under to last in the league. That's just an observable fact. His body simply can not hold up to the impact at anything north of that, and if you disagree then you're ignoring the 170 games or that he's missed from getting hurt at his size.

What do you think overweight is? He was on the heavy side at his leanest at the beginning of the season and is visibly 290 lbs right now. Are you just lying?

How do you know he’s overweight and out of shape? You don’t.

Zion is just the latest example of why people will begin to hate the NBA.

I don’t understand how you don’t realize that Zion’s size and his athleticism is what makes him special. If he was 6’6” 220 he wouldn’t be nearly the force that he is. You are asking him to be something he has never been. His body was like this in high school. 6’6” guys who can’t shoot aren’t starters in the all star game and they sure as hell aren’t doing stuff that hasn’t been done since Jordan. It is what it is. And what it is, is pretty damn special. If BI can keep playing at his current level and you add the freak that is Zion, we can have a pretty special next couple of months.

Lol you have no idea of he's even close to that. He wears sweats and big jackets all the time.

His body size played no part in the injury or re-injury

Definitely not the injury. Maybe the re-injury.

But, even if not, there's never been a time with Zion where he was not healthy enough to play and didn't blow up very, very quickly.

He's unable/unwilling to maintain his weight if he's not able to go full speed. And, when he does gain weight, bad things happen from an injury standpoint.

To be fair these basketball players burn a ton of calories playing basketball and training. If they have an injury that suddenly haults there ability to play basketball and train I would expect it to wreck their body. How is someone suppose to replace the calorie burn and their diet very quickly.

The distinction between fat and heavy is an important one.
Usually people get on Z for being fat.
That hasn’t always been fair or accurate (though at some points it has been).
What people are increasingly arguing is that he’s just too heavy.

That is, even if his body fat percentage is low, he’s just too heavy to play an NBA season, especially the way he plays. Used to be people just thought your body type is your body type and that’s that.
But with modern training and nutrition you can remake your physique, lean down, lose mass. It’s hard but you can do it.
I think this has been a central point of disagreement between Zion and the Pels. Mass is his brand. Z’s team thinks it’s central to who he is and how he plays. They won’t go along with a smaller Zion, just a fitter one, at least up to now…

Tbh, people forget, but he wasn’t in peak season shape when he got injured.

He missed a week or so with Covid. Then the first game back, he had to play 40 mins against Minny. He played awesome in that game, but his vertical lift was clearly not at it’s maximum in that game. He also was a little puffy compared to what he had been a week or 2 prior.

Then 1-2 days later, he pulled his hamstring in Philly.

I blame the hamstring injury on him getting Covid tbh. He wasn’t quite all the way back conditioning wise, but he was still giving max effort. That didn’t quite mesh together perfectly, and he pulled his hamstring. The only thing that could have prevented it was some minute/effort restrictions upon his return from Covid.

But he was busy firmly carrying the team on his back at that time.

Zion is not wrong. Mass does equal power. He will lose power if he slims down more. There is a balance he is trying to find, that will allow him to play as long as possible while carrying as much muscle as possible. Nobody has ever attempted to play like this, so none of us knows the answer on how to make it work.

I've been saying since he arrived that he needs a body recompisition. It would require him to lose muscle while increasing his conditioning. You see lots of NFL OL do this after they retire. If done properly, it would have taken years (5-10 lbs an off season). But his game would have had to change as well. At this point its obvious he has no interest in any of this, so they are going to keep the status quo. I just don't see it working..

False. You're just making up new definitions of words because you were proven wrong. You're like the Clint Howard character from Waterboy: "I said Joe Montagna."

Idc if he was hurt, these are professionals and he shouldnt balloon while out a couple months in season. I dont recall seeing any other nba player have that same issue after sustaining an injury.

This is probably the bigger issue. Need to keep him a lot closer to his in shape playing weight if he goes down for awhile. A professional athlete in his early 20s with his resources and money should be able to not fluctuate too much if he goes down for a bit.

I am the same size as Zion and nowhere near as muscular. I know what 290 looks like.

I do realize this, and that's why I would never want him. I know he can not sustainably play at his size (provably true) and I also figured like you that if he dropped a lot of weight to be able to stay on the court he would lose a huge portion of his game.

It's a real Sophie's choice, and it seems that he and all you are choosing 20 games of Zion looking amazing per year vs someone who can stay on the court.

What’s the alternative? One of the podcasts was talking about JV this week and classified him as someone that is a floor raiser but also a ceiling limiter. Zion is basically the opposite. His injuries lower the floor, but if he’s healthy the sky is the limit

If you trade him you are likely getting back floor raisers, not ceiling raisers. How does that help the Pels when our other star seems just as injury riddled?
