If we are going to call Turner a good defensive 5, then you might as well call DQ one too.

I don't think Queen is a bad defender, especially if you compare him to Missi/ Karlo as rookies.

I know Turner can be a good player. The problem is he's only good when he feels like it, and as he ages that feels like it is becoming less and less common

He wouldn't be my first or second option as a whole, but if the plan is to compete or blow it up then he's a player to take a chance on. P&R, spacing, blocking, and a 3pt threat are still big needs.

He's my first option if the most assets we plan to give up are Poole, Hawk, and a protected 1st. Not sure who could have a bigger impact that we can acquire for equal or less.

So glad we decided to pick up his team option for this season just to now potentially give up assets to dump him. Dumar Masterclass.

It really is.

They guaranteed it before the start of last season. Dumars probably wanted to take a look at Hawk himself. Then realized he’s trash and now is going to dump him to get some flexibility.

Or they guaranteed him knowing that they can atleast get a 2nd instead of letting a lottery pick walk for nothing.

When they don't get anything for him then what?

Like i said, i think a move like this is saying we are wanting to go sign Bennedict Mathurin using the full MLE, which can only happen if we dump Hawkins salary.

Wouldn't the clippers just match it?

They really like him.

Then we see who we decided to move him for.

We aren't dumping him to use "flexibility" and then not using that flexibility. The cap doesn't roll over like the NFL.

If he gets moved its for something/ someone and if not then he's probably on the roster until the deadline.

Probably would have to include picks if they won't do it.

Mathurin was who we wanted when we drafted Dyson fyi.

Also Keyonte George was drafted 2 picks behind Hawk. That one hurts.

trade Jordan Hawkins

Hes the perfect example of what Caruso said about knowing your role in the NBA.

He needed a ton of usage on offense and got lost on defense.

If he focused on being an absolute sniper from 3 he'd still be getting minutes. But instead he tried to be Kobe.

I think what you're failing or ignoring to realize...no one wants Poole either.

He's a bad contract, even as an expiring...you are overvaluing your own assets.

We would have to give up more to get off Poole and Hawk, assuming anyone is truly willing to listen. I get the theory in your head and it's not wrong but it's also not the reality.

I think in order to get off both in one deal you have to give up Herb...otherwise, there are no takers...at least not now. Deadline? Maybe, but even then unlikely.
Not necessarily. I think you are ignoring the financial aspect. If the Bucks were able to get off of $104 million of future guaranteed contracts in Turner and Kuzma for $41 million in Poole and Hawkins, that has to be appealing, especially for a team that is not competing next season. I am not advocating for that deal, as I am not sure we should be taking on those contracts. I think doing so could jeopardize a Bey extension.

They need to make sure to extend Bey and keep him. Kuzma would not be worth the additional contract; however, Turner would be a solid addition.

Kuzma is an expiring. He would have no bearing on a Bey extension that would kick in next season. We could extend Bey at 15 million a year and essentially replace Kuzma’s contract with that one. Sign Bufkin and Dia to a 2 way, release Dickinson, and sign Aaron Holiday, then go into the season.

Murray/Fears/Holiday
Herb/Bryce/Peavy/Bufkin/Pierre (2 ways)
Trey/Bey/Kuzma
Zion/Queen/Karlo/Dia (2way)
Turner/Missi/Jordan

That would have a big switchable team.

For the record, I would start
Fears/Murray/Trey/Zion/Turner

Main bench players would be Queen/Bey/Holiday/Herb/Missi/Kuzma

I don’t know if it’s injury or just confidence but Hawkins looked like a different player his rookie year. He was drawing comps to Ray Allen and even took over a few games.

I think a change of scenery could help like it did with NAW.

anyone who compared him to Ray Allen never watched Ray Allen. They just saw he was a 3pt shooter from UConn. Lazy comp

He’s a guy you have to revolve your offense around to be effective and even then his shooting ability isn’t anything elite like Allens. It’s not an injury thing. It’s not a confidence thing. He’s just a streaky shooter who can’t do anything else at an nba level. Even his perimeter shooting isn’t consistently at an nba level.

Hawkins second year at UConn was shooting 40 from the field 39 from 3

Allen’s second year he was shooting 49 from the field and 45 from 3. With almost double the rebounds, assists, and steals.

Hawkins being not good enough was always the most likely outcome since day 1. Trajan and Swin got too emotional with their pick because of their UConn ties after a championship year from that school.

He maybe "took over" 2-3 games in his career and that's probably the only games he ever looked like a real NBA pkayer.

The rookie season where he averaged 5pts on 34% 3pt and 36%FG.

You can go to a local McDonalds and find someone who can shoot 36%FG and not do anything else.

I used to dislike him, now I feel bad for him. Find this dude an AAU team so he can feel productive.

With that being said, he did look sufferable at the end of last season. That's the best adjective I can give considering years of absolutely nothing.

Kuzma would have no bearing but Turner would. If Bey would accept $15 million a year, there would be no issue. That may be unrealistic. Rumors have suggested $20 million or more. At that point, the Pels, with Turner would be pretty close to the projected tax line with only 10-11 players under contract. They could still fill the roster with near minimum guys at that point, but could have a relatively high draft pick that could eat up much of the remainder. Of course, there always could be trades to free up cap, but is Turner the guy that makes sense given his contract value?

The most we can give Bey is 4/$90M. If he wants more than that then he has to go to UFA next offseason, and i seriously doubt he would do that after the year he just had and wanting his likely 1 big pay day
a good GM would probably start around 4/$65, and settle somewhere around 4/$75M give or take a few depending on how that last year is structured (player option, team option, how much guaranteed).

LAC: Hawk/ '28 1st Pels
MIL: Poole/ '27 IND
IND: Herb
Pels: '31 1st IND/ M Turner/ Mathurin/ J Walker/ Shepherd

We only lose our '28 1st, get a future 1st and still have Murray/ Z/ Turner to flip for future picks.

For 27-28 season we are currently around 56 million below the tax with 10 players under contract. Add Turner at 27 million and we are 29 million below the tax. 18 million to Bey and we are 11 million below with 12 players under contract.

The tricky part would be where our draft pick lands and what his salary would be, but that would be a good problem to have at that point, but 11 million for 3 roster spots is plenty.

Yeah, it all depends on what Bey accepts. If he requires $20 million, I have us at 12 under contract (depending on if they pick up McGowens option) at $8.5 million under the tax if we make that trade. The rookie could eat that up leaving 2 roster spots open and Matkovic as a FA. Now that is close enough to make deals (or let McGowens go and replace with a minimum young guy).
