He plays hard and is usually a nice spark off the bench. Shoots a good 3 ball. He’s a gym rat.

Rivers always made me hate Minnesota for screwinf their tank up and blowing our shot at AD/Lillard or AD/Beal

Yeah but I never blamed him for that
He was bad his rookie but showed promise the last few weeks before his season ended with injury
Solid sophomore season that doubled his PER and was far better than he was
Started off well in 2014 but fell off bad and the pels badly needed a decent wing
He's had a pretty decent career and still contributing in the league, that first round in 2012 was miserable after drummond was taken and produced:
Rivers
Meyers Leonard
Jeremy Lamb
John Henson
Maruice Harkless
Tyler Zeller
Evan Fournier
Terrence Jones
Some decent bench players to be sure but Fournier was the real standout here and thats bad
At least Draymond/Middleton/Crowder/Barton were in the 2nd round

People on this board will hate on Austin because he failed here, but I think expectations were too high for him. Is he as good as he was touted? No, but he has become a good NBA player. He can be a serviceable secondary ball-handler (albeit he doesn't finish well at the time) that can create his own shot. He is also a pretty good defender. He would have been a good option this season off the bench and spot moments next to Jrue. Imagine all those minutes Payton was out being replaced by Rivers.

based on his name and draft spot yes.
he was not an impact player in college and that one damn shot he made was all anyone remembered. change hiis last name to jones and draft him at 20 and he’s being called a late draft success

Nooooooooooooo f....... Waaaaayyyyy!!!!!!!!! Loser and marginal NBA player.

He is a competent 3rd/4th guard in the NBA. He's more polished but still, basically the same guy. Gets into the paint, inconsistent finisher. Inconsistent from 3. Tries on defense, but small and not great off ball. He isn't a creator/facilitator for others. Not afraid to challenge players and make a play
He would have helped the Pels, but that says more about the Pels roster than it does about Rivers. In no way would he have been a quality replacement for Payton's skills, but he would likely have made the minutes Holiday was OFF less of a bloodbath

Frank Jackson is the guy that makes the most sense as reason being that we don't need an Austin Rivers. but at the same time, is Ian Clark's role going to be open. Yes Frank can maybe step up a bit to that but who's replacing Frank's role.
