think the pick at 14 should be either Jordan Hawkins or Maxwell Lewis. We haven't had a movement shooter since JJ Reddick so Hawkins could fit that role. We also could take Maxwell. He's been compared to a shorter Trey Murphy (6'7") except with shot creation and I don't think you can have too many 3 and D wings. Defense is definitely suspect but I believe we have one of the best defensive coordinators in the league along with the fact Maxwell had to be the offensive engine at Pepperdine. He could definitely learn from Herb and Murphy since defense is mostly a team aspect and Murphy wasn't exactly a decent defensive player when he entered the league

Love maxwell Lewis. He just has that it factor. Good size, great athlete, can shoot(had great C&S #s) and can create off the dribble. Reminds me more of Devin vassell than trey. 14 might be a little high for him but I wouldn’t hate it

Yep, I remember hearing Devin Vassell too and a Brandon Ingram lite. He might rise during draft night if workouts and interviews go right. I hope Griff doesn't trade the pick but with our scouting and I think Trajan Langdon making the picks now (Trey Murphy, Alvardo, Herb,) I believe our FO will make the right decision come draft night.

just curious, why do you guys like Lewis over say Jett Howard or Kris Murray? Howard is a movement shooter and a bit longer than both Hawkins and Lewis. Murray is also a longer wing with good all around scoring who gets you some other things as well...

Lewis is a better athlete, better defender than Howard, better handle and he can create his own shot. Howard is the better shooter. I haven’t watched mutch of Murray, but he seems like a worse shooting version of his brother?

I think that’s the book on Murray, but to my eye they look pretty damn comparable and his brother went in the top five last year.

There is a pretty big basket of players the Pels could go for at 14 (provided they keep the pick which I hope they do) who could either help out our anemic bench scoring or give us some much needed rim protection. I just hope they don’t go for another teenager with a lot of “upside” but not much of a track record …

Kris doesn't have the same athletic profile as his brother. That's going to limit his upside on both sides of the ball. I trust his shooting to translate at the next level as a C&S 3 and D wing but he's not as good of a prospect as his brother.

At pick 14 you can trade back and take Kris Murray. He's not near the shooter Jett Howard or Maxwell Lewis is or will be. If there's a redraft right now would you really pick Keegan Murray over Trey Murphy. Plus Kris isn't even as good as his brother. Kris Murray will be 23 when he starts his NBA season. He also looks like a slow footed tweener PF more than anything. Jett Howard and Maxwell Lewis are true wings.

Jett Howard has poor lateral quickness, doesn't play above the rim, and struggles to get by his man. I wish I could find advanced stats but someone said he shot like 42 percent in the paint for the season (can't confirm). So his defensive upside is capped and so is his finishing ability. He's probably closer to Mike Miller or Doug Mcdermott as a player.

Maxwell Lewis defensive issues were mostly mental, but he is a solid athlete and has good enough lateral quickness to probably defend 1-4 at the next level. Lewis shot 62.7% (89/142) at the rim and 57.3% (58/103) in the halfcourt. He shot 44.1% (26/59) on C&S and even though his overall percentages went down as the season progressed, here he won't be asked to be the first scoring option. He also has that sneaky athleticism where you wouldn't expect him to dunk with that wiry frame. Not quite a movement shooter as Jett Howard but he's projected to be given that he already has good footwork.

So if you had a chance to draft a player similar to Trey Murphy/Devin Vassell at 14 when Trey went 17 in a draft he would most likely go top 10 now, and that player is more advanced at shot creation, finishing, and ballhandling at this stage already but just needed improvement on defense would you pick him?

Yes…and I know what he’s saying, but agree Mike Miller was a bit of a faded memory comp. It happens. The guy played almost 20 years in the league and was a career double digit scorer with a high point similar to BI this season, along with the championships you mentioned. That’s a very respectable career for almost anyone not in the hall of fame.

putting on my TDGM hat, the difficulty of assessing any shooters left at 14, gets me ready to deal and move up to get g dick.
I'm going to put on my Johnny Carson turban and get clairvoyant.

At the end of lotto we should go for a a movement shooter or shot blocker.

Hawkins makes sense. Could also live with a roll of the dice on Lively.

Sam Vecenie from The Athletic updated his big board today and our range looks ideal from a skills needed standpoint.

12 -Gradey Dick, Kansas, W, 19, 6-7

13 - Leonard Miller, G League Ignite, F, 19, 6-10

14 - Dereck Lively Jr., Duke, C, 19

17 - Jordan Hawkins, Connecticut, W, 21, 6-5

18 - Keyonte George, Baylor, G, 19, 6-5

19 - Nick Smith, Jr, Arkansas, G, 19, 6-5

If he falls to 14, you have to take him. He's the most talented with the highest upside. Plus we don't have anyone else like him. Super young, should fit nicely next to Daniels..

Not sure it's fair, but I get a strong "Austin Rivers" chucker vibe from George. His percentages weren't great and his shot selection, from what I saw, looked very suspect. Sometimes you can get that out of a player. Sometimes not. At this point I'd really rather have a pure shooter like Hawkins who has a defined role, over another "combo" guard who is always a year away from figuring it out...

I think he'll figure it out and become a pretty good player at some point. Just not sure he fits on this team right now. He needs development and playing time to figure it out. Don't think we can offer that after what we saw how we handled Dyson last season.

Path to playing time is going to be a specialist type of shooter or a defensive big who gives you rim protection and switching abilities.

Bryce Sensabaugh
Cason Wallace
Keyonte George
Jordan Hawkins
Maxwell Lewis
that's the order in which i would want to draft at 14

I think Sensabaugh has a lot of Joe Johnson in his game. He's able to use his body really well to score in iso situations. He was an excellent 3 point shooter. The knock on him is he doesn't make those around him better, but he's not a PG so i'm not sure why that's such a big knock.

And I also hope we buy into the 2nd round and take Adem Bona, the freshman center from UCLA. Wouldn't expect him to play much if at all next year as he needs some work, but his defensive potential is extremely high imo. You can't teach effort, motor, size, or athletic ability, and he's got all of that.
On the other end of the age spectrum is Oscar Tshiebwe, the senior who's built like a rock and has an endless motor rebounding the ball. I don't know why he's projected to not get picked. His rebounding and rim protection at his size should be more than enough to be a productive nba player, and i'd love to draft him.

Most of these prospects i think "When would he play for us?" Like someone said, theres minutes to be had at the 5 or a pure shooter. Any other type of player would barely touch the court for us.
