Pelinka may just say screw it and not do anything since Lebaby effectively vetoed his Hield trade to bring in Russ and just let Russ expire so they can chase Kyrie in the off-season and use our first to trade for another vet piece to make a run next year.

If AD or Lebum get hurt soon, i could see this happening. Just give up on the season.

Buddy and Turner don't really help the Lakers past LeBron's window. I'm worried Indy will blink and decide 1 unprotected pick is enough. We're talking a pick with good odds of being top 10. Do you really walk away from that because you want both or none?

Only way you do a deal with the Lakers is to step on their neck harder.

No mercy

Think they pressure Pelinka to make a trade soon that will win them some games but not enough to get into the playoffs.

What can they trade though?

I honestly don't see Pelinka or Buss being willing to trade any picks at this point.

The situation is horrible now, but is it worth a first round pick to finish at #10 and get bounced in the first play-in game?

It's not. They are better off just taking their medicine. If he's healthy, maybe they trade AD at the deadline.

Maybe we can throw some 2nds at Indy to not make a trade with the lakers this year.

But if I’m Indy, I’d probably take one and tell them to add a pick swap the following year, but they’ll have to wait longer.

Remember Indy played hard bsll with Griff. Supposedly turned down #4 for Turner, which was crazy. So they may not bend.

Being realistic, I don't think we're gonna get a top 5 pick.

The Lakers will likely make a trade that makes them marginally better like Kyrie, or Hield/Turner.

The other factor to consider is that every bottom feeder team will start tanking hard to get more ping pong balls.

The Lakers have ZERO incentive to tank. So when OKC and Orlando start trotting out Gleaguers in April, Lebron will be feasting trying to get the scoring title.

Unprotected ‘27 and ‘29 picks.

Depends on how things shake out with which teams are competitive.

Right now, I’m seeing a mix of young teams which weren’t expected to compete to begin with, disappointing contenders who don’t own their own picks, and the Kings who are desperate to make the playoffs.

There aren’t a lot of teams able to take on Westbrick, which hurts LA’s leverage, and a bunch of teams are competitive which weren’t expected to be, which helps Indy’s leverage.

Depends on where the Lakers are at that point.

We proved last year that it is possible to come back from a very ugly start (1-17?), but we had lots of talent and brought in leadership like CJ.

Lakers? They have two guys who are considered stars and not much talent outside that. And their main tradable assets would mortgage their future through at least 2029.

If the Lakers are a 20-30 win team, that likely puts them in the pool for most balls in the draft. They don’t have to be worst as much as being as bad as OKC, etc, and not get passed by a real long shot.

I wouldn’t say zero incentive because truthfully them not giving up their 27 and 29 picks will help turn the franchise around better in the long term. If they continue to not have picks the rest of the decade with marginal talent, a glass AD, and old AF lebron, they are in for many years of hurt.

Lets hope they realize trading those picks this season wont win them a title and they just ride it out

If they break down and ship those picks unprotected it will be a case study in what not to do as a franchise. Sunken cost fallacy for the NBA.

I mean zero incentive to tank with the current roster. If they decide not to make a trade, they're still gonna try to win with this team. There's no reason to be worst since they don't own their own pick.

I got you. They won’t intentionally tank but they’ll be bad enough it will look like tanking

If you think things are bad now, just wait a few weeks until Toni gets female cramps and starts missing several games at a time.

This.

Ham’s got them buying in defensively but they have an offense on par with two of the worst teams of the past decade in 2012 Charlotte and 2015 Philly.

Without bringing in more talent who can function offensively, their ceiling is pretty low.

They’re a bad team with them. When one or both are out my god who knows the floor

It would be hilarious if they somehow win the games without them though
