It's just crazy that Powell cost almost nothing (and makes a lot less than CJ) and isn't THAT much worse than CJ.
Since Powell fits the Trade Exception it seems like Portland probably could have gotten more value out of sending him to NOLA as part of a CJ trade. It makes me think all of the CJ chatter, which has been talked about everywhere like it was leaked on purpose, was posturing to squeeze whoever the real target is (Fox or Sexton?).

Yet, over here people are ready to unload the whole clip for the guy.
Trading Josh Hart + assets for CJ McCollum makes me want to throw up a little bit the way Josh has developed this year.
ETA: Fox under Willie Green is an awfully tempting experiment though.

Man I just looked at CJ's stats this year and wtf who would want him with his contract? He's clearly declining.
What stats are you looking at?
He’s avg 21 and 5 assist while shooting 40% from 3.
Idc about money—-it’s not mine

The team still operates under the CBA so it matters, especially if he declines.

Look at his FT%, PER, Offensive Win Shares, WS/48, and VORP
This is clearly his worst year since year 3. He's on the wrong side of 30. He's got 2 years at $33.3 and 35.8M after this one.
You don't sell young/improving talent and draft capital for a guy like that.

Unless you're name is Lebum.
Posted on 2/4/22 at 8:56 pm to SlowFlowPro
He makes 1.4 out of 1.9 free throws a game—-
Not sure you can take much from that.
It’s only two years left in the deal for a guy that fills what we need. We wouldn’t be giving them anything of real value. Hart is replaceable and the bucks first won’t be much. In two years his cap hit will prob be half of that.

If you're close to a title (which Lebron teams are by default) then it's OK.
We aren't there

100% agree, woukd not have minded Powell esp for the cost, but I’d rather stay away from CJ all together. The cost won’t be worth it. Rather try for Sexton. Nice mix of age and talent and shouldn’t cost much. Not a perfect fit but beggars can’t be choosers.

Yeah Sexton's age makes a huge difference.
I fully admit I'm melting over Powell b/c I like him AND he was so cheap.

Jaxson is worth 3 first round picks
Posted on 2/4/22 at 9:31 pm to Macintosh
It's a small sample size Jaxson is playing like he'll be a starting caliber player. He is definitely not a throw in or equal to 2 2nds any more. I'd rather keep him at this point. Find a spot for him or trade him later when he's worth more.
I can't believe that Jaxson has made me a believer. It feels so wrong.

CJ + 2 Firsts for Jax? Or does Portland need to add more?
Posted on 2/4/22 at 9:39 pm to TigerinATL
He can be Zion's backup easily
Man idk if let him go now. He's kinda showing you his ceiling. Which is rather high.

Frick it. Hayes is untouchable!

I would much rather move NAW than jax.

Everyone would. Be a miracle if we could

I agree that I would rather wait til the off-season to make a big trade for our supposed 3rd big piece, but I think alot of yall are downplaying how good a player Fox is and the potential that he, Zion and BI would have together.
Fox was one of only 5 NBA players last year to average over 28 PPG after the ASB. The other 4 were Steph, Donovan Mitchell, Beal and Zion. The dude is only 23 and this year he hasn't played as well, but you gotta realize how bad the situation is in Sac. It reminds me alot of Zions first two years here, before Willie changed the energy and culture of this team. If Fox buys in and takes pride in playing for his hometown team(he's from NOLA), it could be the perfect move for us.
It could just as easily fail though, so it really is a huge gamble and one I'd rather take in the off-season, after we know where our draft pick lands, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if Griff is afraid of missing out and pulls the trigger sooner.

Hart, Naw, sato, didi, and 2 protected ones. Fox comes to NOLA?
Posted on 2/5/22 at 1:57 am to touchdownjeebus
My man, that would be the deal of the century
Posted on 2/5/22 at 8:22 am to SlowFlowPro
McCollum missed a lot of the season with his collapsed lung, so you're looking at a fairly small sample size with his stats this year. And he's played a lot of that without Dame on the court, which means that defenses can key in on him a lot more, so I'm not sure that the stats tell the full story.
I'm still in favor of a McCollum trade if we only give up Sato, NAW, Didi, and one protected first.
But even though I'm in favor of a McCollum trade, I still prefer Fox.
