I think Fox is the better move long term.

You always take a guy willing to come home and is Top-level guard in the NBA (which we desperately need).

CJ is 30 and fox is 24
if the cost is similar you go get the younger guy 10/10

I’d rather trade less for hield and try again to find a cheaper facilitator elsewhere

For a CJ deal Hart, Graham or Jonas has to go out, only way we can make money work

The New Orleans Pelicans are reportedly "pretty active looking to buy" on the trade market and have made veteran guard Josh Hart available in talks, ESPN's Brian Windhorst said on his Hoop Collective podcast (h/t HoopsHype).

Windhorst added that the Pelicans have held trade talks with the Atlanta Hawks regarding Kevin Huerter, the Portland Trail Blazers about CJ McCollum, the Houston Rockets regarding Eric Gordon and the Sacramento Kings about De'Aaron Fox.

From Michael Scotto at HoopsHype

quote:

With the emergence of Simons and the selling off of veterans like Powell and Covington, rival executives around the league believe the Trail Blazers will move CJ McCollum by the trade deadline or this offseason as Portland continues to reshape its roster around franchise star Damian Lillard. Several teams, including the New Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks, and others, are expected to have interest in trading for McCollum, who is owed $69.13 million over the next two seasons.

LINK

What would the Mavs trade for CJ? Finney-Smith or Brunson? Everything I've seen about Dallas trading instead of paying those guys would be to keep future flexibility.

"and others"? I know this is reportedly sourced from rival execs, but it sounds like a poorly drafted Portland leak to drive up CJ's low price.

I know theres interest, but CJ makes 30 million, to salary match we have to send Hart, Graham or Jonas, only way to get to the 28-29 million required without gutting the team by sending Sato, Temple, NAW, Hayes and minimums.

Sato, NAW, Temple, Jax, Didi works salary wise, but guts the team.

On the flip side, Hart, Sato and one of Temple, NAW, Kira, Hayes works salary wise.

Not true. It will be probably be Sato + Hart or Graham + NAW or Hayes. You could even do it without giving up Hayes or NAW as Hart+Sato+Willy+Didi works. I’d assume though if we did that we would have to take back some small salary in our Melli TE for roster purposes. So we it would be more likely Sato+Hart+Willy + Didi for CJ + Snell, Zeller, or McLemore.

Edit: I misread your post. I thought you were saying it had to have Hart + Graham or Jonas.

Gotta keep Hayes now that he's flashing some huge potential that he was drafted on. And I think Griff / FO will really try to keep Murphy. Think they want to keep Kira, and other teams might not even put value on him with his injury.

So it seems like the available players for trade are:

Satoransky (expiring salary)
Hart
Graham
NAW
Temple

And all the picks. Feels more likely they would overpay with an extra future 1st or two, in order to keep the developing potential players in the fold (Hayes, Murphy, Kira).

Yall seriously overvalue CJ, hes not fetching much more than salary and a young player, he's on the wrong side of 30 on a big contract and has had alot of inuuries popping up.

Getting back on track, what team was stupid enough to offer that, and why was Dallas stupid enough to turn it down?

Yep, sorry misread your post. I’m going to blame 99% on my reading comprehension skills and 1% on the missing Oxford comma.

Well, there were reports that we were interested and Griffin is still running the team, so….

I guess they don’t want to lose him for the playoffs and/or they have decided they are going to keep him this off-season. This could be a sign that they decided to keep him at his price in the off-season rather than Brunson because I don’t see how they pay both.

DFS is a solid player.

Dallas is trying to win now. I don't see the value in moving him for a pick that you'd hope in 3-4 years can net you a player about as good as DFS

My first thought was this, but we already traded our picks this year, so has to be someone else.

Agree. However, cannot see the cost being anywhere close. I would have to think Fox is not a realistic target. I certainly hope we do not settle for Gordon.
