If true, would make it easier, but still think they would have done it before finalizing other deals if that was their intent.

Yeah, that's getting a no thank you from me.

Hart+Sato+Gabriel for Hield is a lot to give up in terms of our depth, while taking on long term bad salary.

We would be in a pretty desperate situation at PF at that point and would absolutely NEED to have a plan to bring in a PF Vet.

depends on your perspective...

gabriel is gone anyway, they need the roster spot.
sato going out opens another spot.
a spot that could be filled by a legit NBA PF (ie: millsap).

hield and hart are almost the exact same size/weight, yes hart is a better rebounder but buddy is a top-5 shooter in the league. we already know he's a hard worker and a good dude (just like hart).

our depth in the frontcourt still sucks after the trade, but you have a roster spot now to work with

While I tend to agree that I would not make the trade, are you really relying on Gabriel as our depth at PF? I would argue we are already pretty desperate there is we are relying on him. I would guess that role when Zion is not on the floor will be filled by a mix of BI, maybe Hayes and others and when we go small ball, we have options like Murphy, Jones and even Hart.

We shouldn't but we don't have a current alternative really.

If we are moving Hart, Sato, and Gabriel for Hield:

You are gaining 3 point shooting significantly, but also gaining significant long term salary

And losing rebounding, ball handling, PF depth, and future contract flexibility.

IF I know they have a plan to also address PF depth adequately, than I am for it.

I also think people are downplaying Sato a bit. He's a good player.

I’d do it. It’s basically trading 2 dimes and 1 nickel for a quarter.

Getting rid of Sato and replacing his minutes with Hield would be a win. Sato is solid but he’s another spot up 3 guy at best. It would be nice to have 1 legit movement 3 guy on the roster.

Hart doesn’t want to be here and he can’t shoot. He’s also replaceable via Naji, didi, Murphy, Jones.

Wenyen is always tossed around as a guy we are probably going to cut, so including him in this deal to make the financials work is fine.

Backup PF is a problem, but if we add a shooter like Hield, playing Jax more PF minutes wouldn’t be as big of an issue spacing wise, especially if his shot continues to develop.

I’d definitely consider it, but as I mentioned 4 days ago, I think the Kings are trying to use Hield to obtain a bigger fish like Siakam unless we are also tossing them draft compensation, which if it’s a first, would be a no from me.

We are sending Hart in this deal.

also re: salary, here's hield

2020-21 $24,701,834
2021-22 $22,477,273
2022-23 $20,522,727
2023-24 $18,568,182

that's a cost-controlled high volume and willing 3-pt shooter on a declining contract. just to remind everyone, buddy is a career 40% 3-pt shooter

If there was a way to add Hield and then get Markkanen into the TPE without giving up a 1st I would feel pretty good about it.

After that, maybe you can get a TJ Warren type into the TPE?

I think most league observers consider that an overpay for Hield at this point.

But regardless, if there is a legit plan for PF depth I am in. Otherwise I think that is a really big concern. 1 injury and you are sort of fricked.

That’s true we still do have the TPE to work with. I say let’s solve 1 problem at a time. Get Hield and then move on to a PF solution.

A team with Zion, Ingram, Graham, Buddy, Jonas, And NAW would legitimately have 6 guys that can score 30 plus on any given night. That’s exciting to think about. I would think we’d be able to avoid those 4-5 minute game killing droughts with that type of setup. You can stagger the lineups in a way to always have at least 2-3 legit scorers on the floor at all times. It would be fun as hell.

I’d say the PF situation is far far more dire than any ill Hield would solve. I don’t think we have a single “real” PF on the entire roster (if you don’t consider Zion one).

I say solve Pf first and then let’s talk Hield.

Can we afford Hield and Markkanen? Bunch we could easily not have Gabriel or Hart on this roster to role with next season. That would be Sato for Buddy pretty much and you are trading your 3rd string PG for a starting SG level player.

Are we just going to have a bunch of guys averaging 25 minutes per game?

NAW/Kira/Didi
Buddy/Graham/Murphy
Ingram/Naji/Temple
Zion/Millsap?/Jones
JV/Hayes/Willy

More quality rotation players than rotation minutes is a good problem to have, so I'm not complaining. But the head spins with the possibilities of surrounding Zion/BI with shooting or defense. NAW and Hayes really are the x factors. If they can add shooting and defense instead of being one or the other, it pushes the team up a tier.

If not Markkanen, wouldn't we still have our MLE and could toss that at Millsap?
