This 12pm, Aug. 6 is actually the start time that trades and signings can be made official.

So the Memphis trade could be made official at a later date/time. But the assumption is that teams will want to finalize the agreed-upon trades ASAP, so they can continue with other moves, and so the new rookies can join their team in Summer League.

Thanks.

So unsigned free agents like Hart and non restricted FA's can be signed up until the start of the season?

But remember the AD trade? It took the Lakers several extra days to get that deal filed, with the result that Jaxson, NAW, and Didi missed their first few summer league games.

Take 4 days to complete deal:

"This dumb GM isn't getting anyone"

Take 8 days to complete deal:

"We're waiting for Dame to get back from Tokyo, aren't we?"

I’ll shoot my shot and say our “final” piece is Dragic. Hopefully it’s announced later today. We’ve been linked to numerous veteran PG, it just feels right.

This off-season doesn’t work if we don’t find our Steve Nash, as Griff puts it.

Dragic-Naw-BI-Zion-Jonas is a solid starting 5.

At what point after 11 with the deal not finalized do we start to get optimistic again?

I just don't understand the "we're not getting anyone" takes. That's probably what we should want at this point, for him to cut his losses and not be the only GM in the league that gives up assets to get someone like Buddy. But what in our short time with Griff makes anyone think he's going to make the smart long term move to quit and go home rather than spend more to make things happen and figure the rest out later?

Sending Hart or Satoransky and 2nds out to bring back something like Dragic and a decent bench PF is probably the most logical move to make here. That is not what I'm expecting at all.

All of our potential FA paths lead to bitching in here. The least of which is probably blowing our load on CP3, but rest assured some would have still bitched.

But giving Lowry 3/100 would have had people bitching about the overpay. Match Lonzo and we’d get “would’ve rather let him walk” and “overpay”. THJ “overpay”.

If we do nothing from here out it’ll be a failure. If Griff makes something happen this morning we’ll have “overpaid” and “shouldn’t have done anything”.

There’s really no winning from this point for Griff, barring he hasn’t been working on this super hush hush mastermind expanded Memphis deal for a week and a half.

the problem was Griff created this potentially insanely complicated trade that wasn't yet official to open our options. then he focused on pie in the sky players (Lowry/CP3) to fill the preferred option within the trade, and when they went another direction, the trade became an albatross. too many moving pieces were required to take advantage of the deal and it held us captive, so that we missed out on deals using it.

matching lonzo and getting graham would have been an acceptable finish to the offseason. instead we basically gave up more for a less valuable player who should be a bench player for us. i'm not exactly sure how this MEM trade will end up, but all the +EV scenarios seem dead and we're just going to be in an OK position following the trade. probably with a TPE that can net us a non-star, which creates its own limitations on how much we can improve our team

people want to focus on just how we look compared to next year, but that's not logical. Griff completely failed last year on multiple levels. our supporting roster is worse than Zion's rookie year, and that's the important comparison. we should be significantly improved from that roster, but we're not.

I’m fine with the individual moves. But he did them in a specific way, to do a specific thing, that he hasn’t been able to do. Which is where the disappointment lies.

It’s fine though.

Gotta find a backup PF.

Why not Hayes at backup PF, especially when paired with our new stretch 5?

I am sure that we struck out on other players that weren't reported.

We've got a nice log jam of bigs between Zion, Jonas, Jax and Billy. You don't need traditional 1-5 backups in modern NBA.

Feels wrong to say this, but I miss Dell Demps. Say what you want about him (SOLO and Asik are unforgivable mistakes), but he was the king of the marginal deals. It seems he would have been well suited to grabbing guys on the cheap this year.

We would be at 0 picks by now if Demps was GM. Probably waste it on guys that are just average. Give an unprotected first for Devontae lol
