It definitely would work out easily under the cap for the next 2 but I'm no cap expert after that. Seems to me with such a young roster with large extensions being spread as they are that a 3-4 year declining max would work just fine
I do agree that Horford is the best overall immediate fit and all for it personally since I'm not that patient lol

1) horford is a close to a sure thing that there is out there as far as impacting gameplay and wins/losses as a low usage player
2) for the next 4 years it is irrelevant who the highest paid player is
3) horford is a freak of nature athletically...he should age well and discounting injury is not likely to fall off a cliff
4) everybody loves the guy in ATL and BOS

His whole time in Atlanta they were always looking for a center to play next to him so he could play his more "natural" position of PF. Definitely a good teacher on how to thrive as an undersized center in the league.

The Pels also have enough spare assets that if they needed to dump him a year early they could. He's not my first choice but I don't think he'll cripple the Zion build if they throw a big deal at him.

I wonder if they'd be able to structure it as a declining contract. Something like $30M-$28M-$25M-$22M for a total of 4 yrs/$105M. That way you protect yourself somewhat in the later years when guys like Ingram and/or Ball are bigger contracts, assuming they're still around. It also makes the deal easier to move in the last year.

It would be closer to $30m-$28.5m-$27m-25.7m.

The limits on a non-bird contract are 5% increases or decreases per season.

I think I've mostly been shocked the Horford to the Pels is actually picking up steam. We are never in the convo for big FAs.

Although you do have the most electrifying young talent in the NBA, along with an exciting young roster. The best trainer in the NBA, which alone has got to get Horford's attention. And a top 30 NBA player in Jrue.

I’m not sure how serious much of the talk is.

I think some of this is just Griff being a great bullshitter who is good at getting our name out there and having us perceived as better than we have been.

As opposed to Dell, who overpaid guys no one else wanted like Solo.

I hope you’re right, cause I sure don’t want us to hand Big Al a four year deal for 100 million +. Like Dr. John says he might be in the right place, but it musta been the wrong time....at least at those prices

It's also a lot of agents leaking this stuff about teams with space. Regardless of interest, to spark bidding.

Yep, I think it’s agents more than Griffin. They see Pels have cap space, so they get that leaked to drive up interest.

Points Bet has matchups of which team will have more wins next season, a fun prop:
Nuggets -180 vs. Blazers +150
Lakers -1000 vs. Pelicans +600
Nets -1600 (LMAO) vs. Knicks (+900)
Raptors (-200) vs. Clippers (+160)
Warriors -110 vs. Celtics -110 (?!)

My new dream offseason:

Sign Horford to a 4/105 deal...the third year would be a player option and the fourth a team option or maybe not fully guaranteed.

Trade E'Twaun to the Bucks (who will most likely not re-sign Brogdon) for Ilyasova and a 2nd or 2

Sign Seth Curry to a 3/18m deal

Trade 2 2nds to the Nets for Joe Harris

End up with:

Ball / Curry / Jackson
Jrue / Hart / NAW
Ingram/ Harris / Hustle
Zion / Ilyasova / Wood
Horford / Okafor / Hayes

Team would be fun as hell to watch

Dennis Lauscha says to @Gkatt_17 he expects the Pelicans to cross the 10,000 season ticket threshold sometime today.

He hopes to garner somewhere in the neighborhood of 14,000 season tickets by season opening.

My conspiracy theory. We drafted Didi Silva in the second round. Reportedly, the Nets were interested in Didi (Tiago Splitter is from Brazil and is apparently a part of the Nets organization).

Langdon is keenly aware of the Nets free agency plans and knows that they will have to unload some salary to make it work. Pels draft Didi as a coveted asset for a potential trade with the Nets.
Harris?? Dinwiddie?

I wouldn’t put it past him doing it for that reason. Especially considering the rumor that the trade with Golden State in the second was one where we told them “We’re drafting your guy you had hidden in the D league. Care to get him from us?”

I also wouldn’t put it past him to do it just to grab all the hidden gems that he has been uncovering with the Nets the last few years now that he has moved on.

updated pels cap sheet after yesterday's RFA decisions. stanley & diallo now are UFA cap holds, which we can ignore (they will be renounced)

now 71MM in gtd salary and 34.5MM is max cap space
