I'm thinking Durant is going to end up back home in DC playing for the Wizards though
If that happens, do they have enough money to sign Bradley Beal?

He's a RFA. They can go over the cap to sign him

RFA is different than Bird Rights. Yes, they can go over to sign him, but the reason isn't related to restricted free agency.

Long story short - Yes, the Wizards can sign Durant and re-sign Beal very easily.
That wouldn't be an issue at all. Could get a little tricky if they extend him before October 31st of this year, but even then it won't be an issue.
The issue IMO, will be selling him that they are a title contender with that core, even in the East, and that playing at home won't be a hassle (as it has been for him in the past).

Yea playing with 2 of his best friends on a stacked roster has 0 chance of happening

I just don't know how it is so likely to some that he stays in OKC.
Again, try to imagine the narrative if they lose in the 2nd round this season (VERY possible)
He will have spent 9 years with an organization. Got to the Finals once. Never won it. His tag team partner is a free agent the following year and has had eyes for bigger markets reportedly.
Why on earth would he re-sign there long term? Now, you can sell me on a 1 year contract where he gives it 1 more try and then sets himself up to get 35% of the cap in 2017. A pure money play. That, you can sell me on.
But the idea that he re-signs in OKC long term if they don't win it all this year? I can't buy that. And I don't see them winning it all this year. Don't even think they make the WCF personally.

A little bit of that, but there is more to it than typical Boom being Boom. It's not very likely, but it is compelling. And it is no more ridiculous than Pels fans talking up Durant to NO.

I agree that how their season ends plays a huge role in whether or not he leaves. If he leaves it will be because they got knocked out of the playoffs too soon for his liking(2nd or 1st rd imo). That's why if he leaves I think he goes East (MIA or WAS) or to a team in the West with a better roster(HOU).

Where is the grass actually greener rather than just as green or potentially more green? He already has another superstar than can win games by himself on his team. As long as Donovan isn't a disaster, whether he thinks Westbrook stays long term might be the biggest factor.

HOU is wayyyy ahead of NOP, no offense.
Better roster
Harden and Lawson connection
Tax advantages of playing in TX
the only advantage that NOLA could have is the coach but I McHale is very well liked and I don't see the coach being the deciding factor

You forget that we just signed Perkins. Durant to NOLA BOOKIT!

Because they are legitimate title contender every year with the guys on board. They maybe have a title already if not for bad injury luck the past 3 years. He's not walking away from a yearly 60 win team without a very good reason. If he wants to win a title, it is very hard to find a better spot for him over the next few years.
Maybe Russ tells him he is leaving. That changes things drastically. Maybe he feels they are snakebit if they run into more injury problems or can't get out of the West. But, at this point and based on what we on the outside know, I don't think he is leaving a surefire contender to jump on a team that's never been to a conference finals, let alone NBA finals.

No one said anything about a long term deal. Very possible he pulls a LeBron 1+1 to see what happens one last time with Russ and Ibaka.

You're right I forgot about that.

Unless you know specifically what Durant wants in his free agency destination (be it OKC or others), you can't really say that one team is ahead of another.
Posted on 7/29/15 at 12:02 pm to Epic Cajun
I think you can safely assume OKC is ahead of UTA and likewise I think you can assume HOU is ahead of NOP.

Do you ever say anything good about the pels?
Posted on 7/29/15 at 12:18 pm to LosLobos111
Iirc I have them over .500 and in the playoffs this season. Maybe you are expecting too much?

Frick no, not the way their getting paid now. It does sound like the owners may.
