I was in my early to mid teens when they were beginning to get big. I like their earliest stuff but to me, The Joshua Tree was the pinnacle. One of the best albums ever IMO. The best songs on it weren't even the hit singles.
One Tree Hill
Red Hill Mining Town
Exit
Bullet the Blue Sky
Running to Stand Still
All those are infinitely more re-listenable than the hits from the album. They started to lose me after Rattle and Hum and now I couldn't give two shits about them, which is funny considering how I loved them from about age 13-23.
And yes, Bono is the main reason why. Total pretentious frickstick.

I still play "Boy," "October," and "The Unforgettable Fire" probably once a year... "War" every couple of years... I dropped out with the "The Joshua Tree" (hardly awful, just never need to hear it again at this point) and "Rattle and Hum"... some of the other stuff over the years has not been bad, but a lot of it has been awful, IMO. But, I can and do watch their concerts and enjoy that...
It might seem strange but in my mind they're kind of similar to the Red Hot Chili Peppers... I was never a superfan of that band but they were entertainingly cool at first, then a guilty pleasure up until "Blood Sugar...," then "please don't make me hear it anymore." They have their thing... it's singular (thankfully, all the imitators have gone away in both cases)... I can hear songs that I don't think are bad but I'm not really into it at all. And both singers are...

I wouldn't say I dislike them, but I've never been a fan. Heard their radio hits back in the 80s/90s, but outside of that, never went out of my way to listen to them.

I wore my Achtung Baby CD out. The song they did for Batman Forever was fire, too. All That You Can’t Leave Behind is a solid album.
If you listen to their 80s and 90s greatest hits album and say they suck, there’s something very wrong with your objective taste in pop/rock music. Not saying you have to like it, but it doesn’t suck.

They did some good/decent stuff after Rattle, but it all became some bland attempt to be uber inspirational. Everything was Its A Brand New Day type music.

grew up listening to u2 in the 90s - 2000s. actung baby and Joshua tree are great albums.
I like a lot of their albums from the ones I already said as well as unforgettable fire and all that you can't leave behind.
they're douchebags and egotistical psychopaths but they had some good songs

For whatever reason…
U2’s music was always so vanilla to me. I felt they never had songs that I could really hang my hat on.
There songs weren’t awful, but just so boring.

Tigerdroppings Music Board-I hate U2, Bono is a prententious dick. Also Tigerdroppings Music Board-The Eagles are God. Reality-Don Henley is a bigger pretentious dick than Bono could ever dream of being.

Have seen them in 3 iconic venues through the years. Awesome experience every time.
