FTR, I really like 10,000 days but its not my favorite.

I agree with this.

FTR, I never said 10,000 Days was their best album to date. What I did say (and firmly believe) is that Rosetta Stoned on 10,000 Days is their best song yet. It's the culmination of their music library up to this point in their career. Rosetta Stoned is Tool at their very best.

Tool's music is just much more complex

I agree, but Metallica's music isn't a walk in the park when it comes to arrangements.

Don't worry Killz, You're still ok in my book and maybe one day we can paddle a river together and I'll even let you listen to 10,000 days.

Are you willing to do the MR 340 with me sometime? If so, you will be in the front...I'll be in the back. I'll call the switches and you'll respond. Me Captain...you deck hand.

Fwiw...on the river I'd probably be listening to something like Marty Robbins

That would be pretty awesome to do.

frick that, I got my own then. I'd probably have to get a new canoe. My Mad River Blazin Bunny has seen it's better days.

I lean toward the Grateful Dead or Stephen Stills on the river.

tool is about the only band my entire group of friends can agree on when hanging out. Its kinda bizarre, even my wife likes them assuming she doesn't know its tool playing.

The song 10,000 Days is in itself one of their absolutely most fascinating lyrically in the way it directly speaks to APC's Judith. The music's not too bad either. I love the climax it builds to.

Metallica hands down. They took British metal , tweeked it, and kept metal a relevant genre of music.

Tool

And I appreciate some of Metallica's stuff. It just lacks the complexity to hold my attention more than a few listens. Metallica reminds me of the reason New Coke was invented and Pepsi won those 80's taste tests. Sugary sweet, simple flavors score better in the short term, but don't hold up to drinking a whole bottle. Same thing with the popularity of Metallica vs the appreciation of the depths of nearly every Tool song. Tool albums are best enjoyed as a whole. 12 minute songs don't tend to get a lot of air play.
