Yea they can be kind of a downer. Neon Bible is a serious downer.
I'm a fan of any band that does strings well, and they nail the strings in the songs. They do atmosphere better than just about anyone else out there. There's a lot going on in the songs in the background.

I rarely listen to FF anymore but grew up hearing them on the radio all of the time so I still have some respect for the band. Like you captain, my taste in music has evolved into a love for the jam scene (Dead, Panic, Phish, Cheese, etc.) I still enjoy a few foo fighters songs when I hear them just because it reminds me of a great time of my life in the 90s. I didn't go to voodoo though and found myself wishing I was in Broomfield. Made it to Huntsville and Alpharetta.

If you had to describe generic teenage angst radio bullshite music there isn't a better way to describe it than playing those two songs back to back

That was my point. They play very generic arena rock. I don't think the Foo Fighters are trying to be this "greatest and most deep band alive" thing anyways. They don't take themselves very seriously, and it shows. It's basic music a lot of bro's can bob their head to while double fisting Bud Lights.
Them Crooked Vultures is a lot better anyways
